showtime
The Cavaliers defensive philosophy of always switching.... lol. I'm pretty sure the Warriors will welcome Kevin Love being stuck on Steph Curry.

Even if they do want to switch then that's fine.....As long as you give help on Steph/KD by sagging off of non-shooters like Green/Looney/Bell. But for some reason they just allow those two to play one on one regardless of who is guarding them lol. The Rockets switched, but after game 3 they started to bring help on KD post ups and would always have someone waiting at the rim for Steph's drives. The Cavaliers don't help the helper, which also leads to wide open layups and dunks. As far as the Rockets go, they didn't really have any weak defenders when they ran their lineup of Paul, Gordon, Harden, Ariza and Tucker. Obviously Harden is a weak defender, but he can at least keep up with the Warriors guys in foot speed. Kevin Love is just a sitting duck and he's being iso'd on the guy that's going to win Finals MVP lol
J-ALL-DAY
And even when he plays great defense, Steph still hits it on him lol. Rockets definitely have better defenders than the Cavs, but even they realized if they didn't help on KD post ups, he was going to drop damn near 40 every game. They made a settle change by bringing the double every time he put the ball on the floor and it completely changed the series. The Dubs offense became stagnant and their best option in the first three games was taken away with all the double teams the Rockets threw KD's way. And the Warriors also completely exposed the Cavs by having the screener slip to the rim. They know there is no help side so by slipping it is a dunk or lay up every single time. The Cavs in the past always doubled/trapped Curry on all the high screen rolls/pops, I wonder if they start mixing in some of those in game 3. I'm sure they would double and trap Steph Curry if Kevin Durant wasn't out there. This team is just impossible for the Cavaliers to defend. RavensTillIDie
So let's jump the gun and talk best case scenario in the offseason for the Cavaliers. Say LeBron hypothetically does re-sign. How the hell do the Cavaliers actually improve their roster given all their terrible contracts? Here's my shot at it: Trade 1: Cleveland Trades: Kevin Love JR Smith Phoenix Trades: Brandon Knight Tyson Chandler (expiring) Jared Dudley (expiring) Troy Daniels (expiring) 2018 16th Overall Pick Trade 2: Cleveland Trades: Tristan Thompson Jordan Clarkson 2021 1st Round Draft Pick (Top 10 protected) Chicago Trades: Bobby Portis (expiring) Robin Lopez (expiring) Justin Holiday (expiring) 2018-2019 Cavaliers Roster: Hill/Knight Holiday/Daniels LeBron/Korver Portis/Nance Chandler/Lopez Best case, that team is still good enough to get carried to the Finals. Worst case, they open up a ton of cap space for the summer of 2019.
J-ALL-DAY
They could only improve by doing a sign and trade for a player of George's or CP3's caliber. Either that or somehow flipping the 8th pick for McCollum.

Kip Smithers
Speaking of Gary Payton, he couldn’t have sounded any more ignorant than he did on first take.

Smith asked Payton about LeBron not really stepping up and taking the toughest defensive challenge (the other teams best player). Payton said that the eras are different and guys took things a bit more personal. For example, he said when he would talk trash to Jordan that Jordan would tell Pippen that he would guard Payton. He also said that LeBron does so much for his team that he doesn't want to tire himself out. Afterwards he said that Michael Jordan didn't think about being tired because in addition to winning the game, he wanted to rub it in that guys face that he was the better player. So he would defend Payton and show Payton that Jordan was better than him and he had that personal grudge all the time. Payton says LeBron doesn't have that (and that's not really something players in this era have). Stephen A. Smith said, "I've never seen LeBron come out from opening tap and say 'I'm shutting that guy down'". In which Payton responded, "he doesn't have Scottie Pippen or other guys to help him, he has to do so much so he can't tire himself out by being like that. Payton also said that during his era the league was better and filled with better players. He basically said the talent was more spread out and not condensed to only like 3 teams. J-ALL-DAY
Filled with better teams all around? Sure, but better players? Nah, don't buy that. He didn't say nothing too crazy. But was wrong about his era having better players.
sdrawkcab321
It was a hell of a lot easier for Jordan to play defense all game when he was going up against accountants and plumbers.

That was said, let that sink in. Then the worst of what he said was regarding switching on defense. Basically saying back in the day they didn’t switch and how guys shouldn’t let themselves be switched if they don’t want to. Then SAS says that the Bad Boy Pistons never switched so players today basically have no excuse.
