None. It's usually all down hill after the first.

However, sometimes there is an outlier where the second is superior to the first, or a rarer case of the third being the best in the collection.

But, it's pretty much impossible to deliver three films of near equal quality when confined to the parameters of an ongoing series.

The Dollars Trilogy might just be as close as you'll get, but TGTBTU is in a league of its own compared to the first two.

LOTR.

Star Wars Prequels.

Toy Story (Debatable)

There are not that many.

Not sure if it really counts, but Captain America: Civil War was the best Cap movie (although it was more like Avengers 2.5 than a Captain America movie).

Thor Ragnarok would be on the list too.

challenge: example where the 3rd movie of trilogy was the best?

Prisoner of Azkaban was the best Harry Potter movie.
Return of the King was the best LOTR movie.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was the best Indiana Jones movie.
Some people would say The Good, The Bad, The Ugly was the best.  I might have to agree, even though I didn't enjoy it as much as the others.
