Drew Brees - new all time passing yardage leader

To all those saying that bulk stats aren't impressive: First of all, you're wrong. Maintaining health and productivity long enough leads to breaking bulk passing records. Longevity matters. Bulk passing stats matter.

Second, Brees isn't just a stat-padding QB. He also has the 4th best QB rating in history and the 4th highest net yards per pass attempt in history (which is an individual stat with one of the highest correlative factors to winning in today's NFL). So he is one of the greatest QBs in terms of both bulk and efficiency passing stats.

While some of those stats are undoubtedly boosted by him playing in a dome for most of his career, his accomplishments go well beyond empty bulk passing records.

God forbid we have a single damn thread on this forum that doesn't involve a bunch of randos demanding we spank off Brady yet again.

Nobody else is allowed to be amazing. It's why ranking individual players based on purely team based accomplishments is stupid. It's stupid in Baseball, it's stupid in Basketball, and it's stupid in the NFL. You can't rank QB's, and you shouldn't, rankings are dumb. They're the most lazy sports "analysis" you could possibly give.

I hope god does forbid it.

Also if you don’t like ranking players, sports might not be for you

Man I came to this thread hoping for videos of the celebration and congratulatory stuff from other players and couldn't make it past page 3 with the amount of salt in here.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed with the direction this went. Somebody has to throw out GOAT, then Brady, then who did this and who did that from a hot air balloon when the circus hadn't even hit town, but Uncle Lucy had the best milk and that's why we ended up with a Chevy that had a Ford motor that was built in a coal mine during 9/11 by a group of hairless rabbits working on their Mensa competition that was scheduled without even using a calendar......

It's a heck of an accomplishment. My guess is, that because it's a "record", nobody has done it before, no? Note worthy.

Yeesh. Our fan bases sensitivity is showing big time. Brees is a great dude who set a great record and Pats fans flood in here with sarcastic remarks about him being better than Brady...Just relax and let the dude enjoy his accolades.

I tried to like this, but apparently  "Sorry, you cannot add any more reactions today." is what I get instead, so I'll just quote.
Brady is a great QB. Nobody can argue otherwise. I feel the same about Brees.

Anybody up for splitting hairs?

Rankings are what sports talk shows do to pad dead air time to fill out empty conversation. It's not a conversation of individual skill, it's a conversation about nebulous "legacy" qualities.

Sports is about the individual or collective athletic greatness being on display for those of us who enjoy watching it. Rankings don't mean anything because it's not analysis, it's subjective rambling that you can apply literally anything too, you have to differentiate based on era, based on random criteria that you can make to mean whatever you want to frame your sports equivalent of clickbait how you like. We shouldn't rank players, we should appreciate greatness and debate their individual abilities in contrast with one another like a reasonable and in depth discussion about skill, drive, ability and character. Because ranking players is impossible on top of being stupid, you're never going to be able to figure out what criteria mean more or less and it's so purely subjective that it might as well be a waste of time.

Fans have been ranking players forever. It’s been happening since one athlete was proclaimed as the best and someone else said “no this guy is”.

And?

That people do it doesn't mean it's not stupid. People do a lot of dumb crap in the name of petty tribalism. Doesn't mean it's not still stupid.

Sports are tribalism. Teams representing one area trying to beat teams representing another

Drew Brees is an all time fan favorite. The guy loves and is invested in his city, and the inverse holds true as well. He has overcome countless odds with height limitations, spread system limitations coming out, a terrible physical injury to his shoulder...and won a Super Bowl in New Orleans post Katrina. The guy is a living feel good movie plot. How can anyone legitimately not like him?

That's nearly contradictory. Ranking players without any analysis is folly. Ranking them based on an analysis that contrasts their abilities is not. The debate that you mention is in arguing what abilities and statistics are most important. Nothing wrong with that IMO.

I don't mind ranking players.  I just don't like diminishing one player to pimp another one.

The way people use stats when it suits them and ignore them when it doesn't.  It's human nature to be biased towards your own players, but you don't have to dog everybody else.
