This is ridiculous. He’s been really good this year, even with crappy WRs, a crap running game, and an overrated Oline. Oh yeah, he’s also got a messed up hand. You really gonna judge him on a game when he was sacked 11 times and led the team in rushing with 25 yards (on 2 attempts)?

On one hand the best offensive player he's gotten to play with is Delanie Walker. On the other hand I haven't seen a QB in this passing era consistently have as many sub 200 yard passing games. DeShaun Watson hasn't even played 1 season worth of games and he already has more games with 300 yards passing than Mariota.

I mean, there's no way around it. He was really bad yesterday.

He's better than Bortles. Jags are wasting an all time great D.

Although after the Cowboy game maybe not...

At this point, how is he better than Bortles? What does he do that’s better? He’s been worse for a significantly long time.

He’s thrown to more open receivers than any other Quarterback in football this year (yesterday not withstanding). How much better receiver play does he need?

Is he even Bortles tier? TBH

I know this will come off as a hot take from a Jaguars fan, but he's not.

25 games as this QB.

And he's doing this while throwing to open receivers on 85.4% of his throws in 2017 and 88.1% this year. Combined across the two years, this is the highest rate in the entire NFL. He is throwing to open receivers, he just can't get them the ball because he sucks.

*I will note it is behind the combined efforts of Alex Smith and Pat Mahomes in KC; but Alex Smith's rate in Washington is well below.

Here are their stats per 16 games minus their rookie seasons.

Yes Mariota might have a slightly higher completion percentage and rating, but I'll honestly take Bortles over Mariota given the numbers.

I honestly had no idea it was really this close. I've seen a lot of Mariota vs. Bortles arguments, but never bothered to check the stats. Damn, that's pretty sad.

he has had one good game this year. he has definitely not been "really good."

listen, i've defended the guy plenty and there have been a good number of games where he has been significantly better than his stats, but yesterday was the opposite. he was terrible.

What do you expect when you're sacked 11 times and your team can't run for ****? It was like Carr with the Texans.

he ran straight into at least half of those sacks. it was the most skittish and indecisive i've ever seen him in the pocket. it was bad.

Lol it took 3 pages but finally someone rushed in here to defend him.  I cannot believe you actually stooped this low for this.  We're not judging him off of yesterday's game, we're judging him off the last season and a half where he's clearly regressed. No amount of excuses can change that fact

Lol, "crappy wide receivers" and "overrated o line".  Not like they used a top 5 pick on a receiver or multiple top 10 picks on offensive tackles or just signed their LT to a massive extension.... Oh wait
