Gameplan Offense:

This week we will feature a heavy dose of the run and attack the middle of the field in the passing game, while utilizing our outside size to take advantage of jump balls and keeping the defense honest. Hopkins will get a fair share of targets regardless of who covers him, and Rodgers will have his opportunities to pick apart matchups. Some drives we will be coming out in three wide looks with Kittle and seeing if we can get a nickel look while motioning him back inline and taking advantage in the run game of having the nickel corner on the field. Other times we will start a drive with Kittle inline and our two backs and see if we can get more backers on the field, and then move Kittle and McCaffrey our to take advantage in Coverage. We will be utilizing motions and different packages with players already on the field to take advantage of the defensive personnel on the field in both our run game and passing game.

Run Game:

We feature a two running back offense this week. McCaffrey will split 50/50 run plays with Ingram. McCaffrey will be a chess piece, lining up in the backfield and out into the slot, while Ingram is the other back. Ingram will see an occasional motion as well out into the slot, with McCaffrey as the lone back. We will also feature some three back heavy sets with Janovich coming in to lead block. Starting with the two back sets allows to ball control the game but also motion McCaffrey out as a weapon to take advantage of sets we like without substituting in a receiver to catch the Jazz in substitution packages we can take advantage of and move to a hurry up if we like, depending on the flow of the game. We will feature a zone running game, as the front of the Jazz is very stout, this will get them off balance and on the move and allow our backs to pick holes, and provide those cut back lanes that provide opportunity for big plays as well. We will balance our attack giving even opportunities to each back but Ingram will see some more power inside while McCaffrey will see some tosses and stretches outside, to better take advantage of each backs strength. Kittle is a heck of a blocker at TE and gives us some added beef to seal down the edge or ride out a player like Dee Ford to gash inside of him.

Passing Game:

Hopkins and Funchess will be our outside receivers and we will be looking to take advantage of Funchess’ size and Hopkins’ overall skill set . We will utilize McCaffrey out of the backfield and split out into the slot in the passing game. Kittle will line up in the slot about 40% of the snaps giving us two back three wide looks, and at times four wide looks with McCaffrey and Kittle split out. We mentioned above we will line Ingram up in the slot on occasion he will run wheels and clear out as McCaffrey attacks th flat out of the backfield. Kittle will be a seam killer as well as a mid level weapon. Kittle is third in the league with 19 receptions of over 10 YAC, 9 more than the next TE (Kelce). We are going to utilize his ability and hit him in stride and eat up yards.  Adam Humphries is the backup slot if we decide we want to keep McCaffrey in the backfield and take advantage with an actual receiver in the slot. Over the past three weeks he has 17 receptions for 211 yards and 2 TD’s out of the slot.

Defense:

Formation: Nickel, 4-3, Dime

The Jazz have the passing weapons to spread us out and we will be prepared if they do. If they come out in their infamous three wide we will line up in the nickel. If they bring out a four wide look we will bring in the dime with Mathieu moving to a slot CB, and TJ McDonald lining up at FS and Schobert becomes the lone LBer, with Collins moving down into the box. If they motion Ertz out of their three wide we will bring Collins down into the box and leave Mathieu as the single high FS. If they line up in a two Tight we will bring in Williamson at LBer and run our 4-3.

Coverage:

We will focus on running zone. Our base coverage is the Cover 3, to take advantage against the speed of many of their weapons. We will press often, but also have a press look where we bail right back into our zone coverage on the outside. Our second Zone coverage look will be a Cover 2 press. This Cover 2 will mostly be used if Ertz is inline, and we line up Schobert on his side. Joe Schobert has been the best coverage LBer in the league this year and Brown is very good as well. We will look to jam up Ertz early in his route every chance we get, and get physical with him. We will occasionally blitz Jayon Brown out of either of the zone coverages. The third coverage is a man coverage. Against the three wide when we use man, Trumaine and Roby are in man on the outside, Breeland has the slot WR, Collins has Ertz, Schobert has Elliott, Mathieu has Deep middle, and Brown either blitzes or plays robber in the middle of the field to help with Ertz and crossing patterns. In a two tight Williamson would be bringing the blitzes and Jayon has Elliott, while Schobert has TE2. Blitzing a LBer through the middle of their line is going to create problems for a weak interior offensive line in addition to the defensive front we possess.

Run Defense:

Elliott is a top tier RB, and we will have some beef up front to stop him. The Jazz interior line is weakened by injuries and we believe Reader and Reed will take advantage and control the LOS. Flowers and Jordan man the ends and contain anything heading outside. Schobert and Brown are both very good run stoppers and Brown’s speed and Schobert’s instincts allow them to fill gaps quickly, and if Williamson is in the game he is a thumper against the run. Collins will line up in the box and add another defender to help suppress the run. Hargrave and Vea are the rotational interior players to make sure our interior is fresh and not being worn down. Our goal is to contain Elliott and keep him bottled up in the interior. We will do this by having our ends play outside gaps, with Reader clogging up a A and B gap to the TE side, Schobert filling C Gap, and the end to that side taking D gap outside the TE. Collins is in the box on that side and has free range and clean up. On the opposite side of the TE, Reed takes A to the non TE side, Brown takes B, and that end has C. In the event of a four wide or TE split out to make four wide, our DT’s two gap and our ends have C Gaps with Schobert being able to read and react against the RB.

Go Leprechauns Go!!!

Offense:

They key for our passing attack is going to be attacking the linebackers for LB and getting the ball into the hands of our running backs, TEs and WRs across the middle.

If Thomas doesn’t draw double coverage, he’s going to be force fed the ball by Brady as expected given his propensity to come down with the ball on almost every target. Having Lockett starting alongside him makes it somewhat of a pick your poison for Long Beach as we plan on having Lockett streaking down field often as our deep threat, who we’re willing to take shots to. We plan on shuffling them around quite often, and in particular looking to deploy them on the same side of the field with Thomas running crossing routes and Lockett streaks. In any case, the aim is for Brady to either take his shots when these guys are in single coverage, or to pull away the playmaking safeties for LB and leave Ertz, Cook, Elliott and White with space underneath to take advantage.

As with most matchups, the two TE set will be heavily involved in the passing game with both drawing a large amount of targets. In particular, if Ertz manages to avoid Collins’ coverage he will have a huge volume of targets. If he does draw Collins, this will reduce although not entirely, while Cook benefits as he’s up against whichever LB/CB and exploits that matchup.

Elliott and White will heavily be involved  in the passing game and we will have a variety of sets which involve having them both in the backfield. We know that Collins may be tasked with tracking one of them in coverage, so with both available we know we can get a mismatch against one of Long Beach’s LBs, or alternatively whenever we can see a corner will be assigned in coverage, quickly dump it off and have them go 1 v 1.

With the running game itself, it will be nothing out of the ordinary. Elliott will take the bulk of the carries and we’ll utilise him on a variety of run concepts, while Hines will get a handful as our scat-back with the potential to make men miss on outside runs and in the open field.

Defense:

Firstly for the troglodytes, I always line-up with a base 4-2-5 of some variety, so please don’t come in here and be like “oh they came out with formation X which Louisiana wasn’t prepared for”. I have a deep enough team to make adjustment. Now, if I get out game-planned that’s another thing, but seriously look beyond the starting line-up.

Anyway, with Burfict & Barr returning from injury they’ll both be worked back in gently. Ford retains his spot as our 5th pass-rusher and for the most part we’ll be sending the 5 against Rodgers, especially with Terron Armstead out which figures to cause some issues for the line’s chemistry.

In terms of coverage, Chris Harris will be tasked with McCaffery out of the backfield or slot, while Gilmore will take Hopkins, occasionally with Boston’s help over the top. Fuller will take whoever the other WR is, and if necessary, Coleman or Scandrick will come in, with Coleman for the slot and Scandrick outside. Hyde will be tasked with Kittle, while Trevathan will mostly patrol the middle of the field in a zone.

The running game will feature heavy rotations as usual, with Chung coming in for Hyde/Boston to sure up against the run, while Hankins, Onyemata and Curry rotate with the DL frequently to keep us fresh. On more obvious run downs, Chung will also come in for Boston while Barr will see an increased number of snaps rotating in place for CBs in the heavier sets for Long Beach.

Performance - Lou; Gameplan - LB; Matchup - LB

The Lou defense seems more like a 5-1-5 than a Nickel. I think Kittle is the decider in this match up and will work well in the game plan LB designed this week.

LB 27-18

I really liked Counselor's idea to bang away in the run game, I think that can really chew up some clock. But, I don't think he has the explosiveness in the passing game to really take advantage of Louisiana should they begin to creep in. I love Hopkins, but he's a middle of the field guy, not a down the field guy, same with Funchess. I think LB has the better game plan, but Lousiana has a better combo of gameplan/players to execute a successful plan.

Much closer game than I anticipated though.

Sending 5 against Aaron Rodgers literally has been proven to increase his accuracy tremendously. His rating jumps to 116.

I think while Harris covering McCaffrey when he is out wide, when he is in the backfield it makes him more susceptible to the end around and other tricks they have up their sleeves. Going Rodgers here.

Ok, but its also sending 5 good pass-rushers and having an elite secondary back there with 2 great coverage safeties and 3 top tier CBs. It's quite a bit different...

You blitzed 5 and kept a 6th in zone in the middle of the field, one safety is doing intermittent bracket coverage on Hopkins and the other is on Kittle. Ingram is running without coverage. Rodgers can hit Ingram every play.

i really don't mind the five man front so much as the fact that theres not much variance besides sending five every play.  I'm sure the Jizz didn't mean to completely ignore a passing option, but they kinda did

then i have to factor in a majority zone defense against tommy terrific

in the end i think both teams are gonna put up points but i like the beach game plan and not giving an elite qb the same type of look all game
