the system itself seems fine, far superior to what we had last year. but his playcalling is horrific

If he's smart, he'll go meet with Kyle and Sean this off-season and have them rip apart his play-calling.

Apparently, Mariota is the only one that doesn't get credit when his WRs actually beat their corner (2nd TD).

In fairness, that pass wasn't particularly impressive. It was underthrown and almost resulted in Davis' defender catching up with him and tackling him. IF he doesn't shake that tackle, it's not a touchdown, and there was absolutely no reason it shouldn't have been if Mariota hits him somewhat in stride. Davis would have walked into the endzone if that were the case unless you think Hal was turning on the jets and catching up from the safety spot if it were thrown further downfield.

Davis had a DB in front of him too. It was thrown where it should have been IMO

It was thrown well. He knew Davis had the corner beat. If he throws it further the safety either knocks the ball away or drills Davis.

That was Hal. He wasn't catching up if that throw leads davis in my opinion. If you want to think that, that's fine - that's why I put that caveat in the original post. I'm just not of the opinion that he was going to.

Mariota throwing only 1 incompletion and losing by 3 scores is all you need to know about the playcalling tonight.  EVERYTHING was in front of the sticks.  Where is the misdirection, the jet motions? Where is the scheming guys open you see with the new breed of play caller? Either Matt Lafleur channelled his best John Shoop tonight, or Mariota wasnt executing the offense.

It was probably placed right where it needed to be.  But it was only 1 of 3 passes thrown beyond the sticks.

FElt like every time they would get something going they'd run it on first and 2nd down for a loss of yardage and kill the drive.
