$11M cap hit this year means $22M in ‘20 and ‘21 and $25M thereafter, by the looks of it. Good chance this ends up being a 3-year deal like Dez’s, but even if that’s the case, those three years could certainly go better than Bryant’s did. Very good move. So glad it’s out of the way.

I was a little pleasantly surprised to read this news today.  It made my day the boys have been smart with the offers the last few years and this one is no different and I am glad DLaw took it.

From what I understand it is front loaded which is good and also DLaw I thought was looking at 25ish us 20ish so going 21 means S Jones talked DLaw into it and the front loaded deal was probably part of it. Means injury down the line won’t have as a much effect on his total pay day

Assuming they resist the urge to restructure.

Doesn't really look designed to restructure like they have in the past. Looking back at contracts like Tyron and Frederick as examples, they usually had really absurdly high 2nd year base salaries so they could spread the hit out later. But in this case, it looks like the base salary on the second and third year are $17M, which is under his "AAV". So it doesn't seem like they plan on triggering a restructure like they have in the past.

Yeah, this is pretty much the Dez deal adjusted for the next-highest paid position and cap inflation. They’re not touching it, and I’d be mildly surprised if he made it to the fourth year.

edit: although if he doesn’t completely fall off a cliff like Dez did, I suppose he could be tradeable. Just don’t see how we can carry a $25M cap number for him with what Dak will be costing us. Maybe we extend him again

I mean, they could convert $17M into a signing bonus and save ~$11M on the cap that year, no?

For sure they could, but I don't think it's something they are currently anticipating. And I'm not sure it's something they'll need to do, looking at the future of the cap.
