I miss the time when developing pass rushers was expected and immediate results weren’t expected.  Like... TJ Watt was not good as a rookie.  At all.  He was good, but not great in his second year and now he’s our biggest regret.  Even JJ Watt to an extent looked normal in his rookie year.

We went out and signed two significant EDGE rushers and THEN drafted Gary.  If that’s not evidence that we didn’t expect much from him in year one I don’t know what is.

TJ Watt was good as a rookie and great as a sophomore?

Have you looked at this edge rusher draft class for last year? It was maybe the best single draft class for pass rushers in a rookie year ever:

Nick Bosa: 777 snaps/9 sacks/45 pressures

Clelin Ferrell: 648 snaps/4.5 sacks/15 pressures

Josh Allen: 634 snaps/10.5 sacks/39 pressures

Rashan Gary: 244 snaps/2 sacks/5 pressures

Brian Burns: 478 snaps/7.5 sacks/23 pressures

Montez Sweat: 724 snaps/7 sacks/27 pressures

LJ Collier: 152 snaps/0 sacks/0 pressures

**** in the later rounds you had:

Chase Winovich: 291 snaps/5.5 sacks/19 pressures

Maxx Crosby: 750 snaps/10 sacks/31 pressures

There were six legitimately good rookie starters as edge rushers.

Granted, but that means nothing in the context of what I said.  Yes, pass rushers are having quicker impacts.  Same as receivers.  Doesn’t mean a good one can’t take longer to develop.

Out of all of those players, how many have the upside Gary has?  Maybe Bosa.

And no, TJ Watt was not good as a rookie. He was okay at best as a rookie.

70, 75 and 91 PFF scores.  For comparison, Clay Matthews had 80 and 65 scores in 2017 and 2018.

Your “Gary sucks and will always suck” campaign is meaningless.  Your refusal to accept this is immature and stupid.  Of all the best players on our roster, how many of them were instantly as good as they got?

Bakhtiari?  Three quarters of the people on this site didn’t want to give him a second contract.

Adams?  90% wanted him cut after his second year.

Rodgers sat behind Favre.  Are you going to blame Rodgers for not getting on the field?  We had Fackrell in his 4th year and you act like a 4th year vet who has played in the system shouldn’t be ahead of a rookie.

Aaron Jones couldn’t even block in his first two years.

Kenny Clark was never going to be anything but a run stopper after his first year.

Nick Collins was a cut candidate for his first two full seasons.

Other than Clay Matthews, there hasn’t been a single player on our roster who flashed greatness in their first year and yet you’ve just decided that sucks once, sucks always for Gary.

Nobody is even arguing that Gary underperformed in his rookie year.  You acting like his rookie year is indicative of his career is just petulant whining and it’s getting old.
