if fertitta fires morey over this then he is a bigger idiot than i thought

If firing Morey gets him back the business he's losing in China over Morey's comments...then he's not an idiot. He's a businessman. But I leave that decision up to him.

Statement from CCTV:

"We're strongly dissatisfied and oppose Adam Silver's claim to support Morey's right to freedom of expression. We believe that any remarks that challenge national sovereignty and social stability are not within the scope of freedom of speech."

That's...  that's the definition of censorship. Lmao

No, it makes him a whore. An expensive, high priced whore, but still a whore.

well, one of the options on the table for the nba isn't to save the people of HK. so their options are 'stand for justice' and have no affect on the situation in HK like everyone else here and lose 1.5 billion dollars OR do nothing and make 1.5 billion dollars. a lot people will probably lose their jobs if a company loses 1.5 billions of dollars. You are affecting a lot of other people's money so you can feel good inside.

Every single person in the world is born with a choice. A choice to stand up for your principals, or to get on your knees for someone else's. Some people get on their knees quicker than others. Then there's people who will not get on their knees to someone else. It's not easy, especially when finances and livelihood is involved. No doubt that would potentially hurt some people. It's sometimes uncomfortable having to choose principals. But some cannot be bought out, even in the face of billions.

The problem comes when enough people are willing to go down on their knees and look the other way, citing the fact that they won't make an impact, or that it would hurt those close to them, and as long as something is going on over there and not here, then it's all right.

you know we are talking about China, right? They are kinda a big deal. If you don't want to 'get on your knees' you can try and take a stand instead of just saying things. Try and not support companies that do the back and forth w/ China. No products from there either. Guess what? It is going to be tough. You can start by not watching the NFL or NBA. Don't go to Walmart. Don't eat at KFC. Or basically any national food chain. No General Electrics products. Visa? Nope. Coca Cola? Nope. Johnson & Johnson. Ford. Starbucks. Papa Johns. etc. etc. etc Make sure everything you are buying isn't made in China.

Then you can look into all the injustices of the world and see if you are supporting any of those countries. You certainly wouldn't be able to use your computer or phone cause a lot of those materials also come from China.

Your effort might not make a difference but at least you won't be on your knees.

All those companies are on their knees for China. You are proving my point.

If companies and countries completely cut off trade with China, yes, it would be devastating to the economy. But over time, new market entities would emerge to supplement what China once provided. But ultimately that's starting to stray into theoretical economics. Point is, enough people are willing to be on their knees.

Every person that is morally shaming the NBA is. Including you.

In the words of Hasan Minhaj: when you look into things, everything sucks.

A CNN reporter asked Harden and Westbrook last night if the past week has changed their thought process to speaking out on social/societal issues. An Rockets rep shut her down and said they are only taking basketball questions.

"The NBA is the most woke league! We're so awesome! We let our players speak out!"

Until it hits your wallets. Hypocrites.

NBA apologized, but come on now.

my last one on this topic.

you think what is happening in China/Hong Kong is wrong? You think businesses doing business w/ China is wrong (because it helps China)?

Are you willing to stop using those products? Such as Google, Apple, Youtube, NBA, NFL, Ford, fastfood chains, Walmart, Nike, ESPN, etc. etc. etc?

If not, does that make you  a hypocrite? You don't even have hundreds of millions of dollars (the vast majority of it you would be taking away from other people w/o their consent) on the line. Just a little inconvenience.

I'm talking about the situation of stopping the players from answering her question.

The NBA put themselves in this situation by running with the idea that they are progressive and let the players voice their opinions without repercussions, the opposite of the NFL. When the going gets a little tough, the team stifled the players and didn't let them answer a pretty simple question that wasn't even about the China/Hong Kong issue specifically, just if it had changed their thoughts on speaking out.

I understand business is business and I don't think it's a good idea to stop doing business with China; my issue is with stopping a reporter from asking a question and keeping players from voicing their opinions.

It IS possible to support the rights of the people of Hong Kong and not boycott everything made in China. It’s also possible to not boycott China AND acknowledge the fact that the NBA are cowards and players are cowards and coaches are equating China's atrocities to the illegal actions of private individuals and ESPN is using propaganda, etc. There's a difference between protecting your investment and bending over backwards and muzzling fans & players to appease a foreign government.

I will stay out of this political argument in general and I don't agree with everything that you have said. However it is pretty close to what I do believe . take that for what it's worth
