Bengals LG Clint Boling retired this offseason for the same reason.  You don't mess around with blood clots.

To put this in perspective for anyone who doesn't truly.understand how bad this can get, I had a family member that had a pulmonary embolism and was in a coma for a week or so, the clot travelled from his leg to his lungs and he could not breathe on his own. Andrew's reportedly had breathing issues but was released from the hospital. It could certainly have been a worse situation for numerous reasons but medically they are typically very cautious about these things. I would be stunned if he plays again this season.
