Gotham Writeup

OFFENSE

Gotham comes out in our familiar 3 WR/1TE/1RB set with the aim of quick strike scoring.  Matt Stafford will have full control over the offense and look to take advantage of a subpar back 7, picking on single coverage of our receivers.  We will particularly look to Jarvis Landry out of the slot, Tyler Eifert running intermediate routes and Demarius Thomas on the outside.

We will work away from Seoul’s strength in their pass rushing front 4 and work off play action often.  Derrick Henry will stay in on most passing plays as extra protection, but we will also have Eifert chip often on their DEs before running routes.  I would expect Stafford to approach 40 pass attempts in this game, with plenty of attempts down field to Thomas and Perriman, looking to torch the likes of Slay of Alford.

Henry will likely have about 20 touches in this game and should find success with the defense spread out.  If heavy boxes are detected with a safety up close, Stafford will audible out to deep outs or streaks on the outside and look for a homerun to our outside receivers.

DEFENSE - Single High 34 Hybrid

There is no weakness on this defense.  We will pressure Ryan relentlessly in this contest and force him into mistakes.  With Watt and Wilkerson rushing from the interior and Ansah and Floyd rushing on the outside, passing downs will unlikely to convert first downs.

Our defense matches up extremely well with Seoul’s weapons and we will have Josh Norman on AJ Green with help over the top from Eric Reid.  Kam Chacellor will be lined up over Kelce at the LOS, with Xavier Rhodes on Watkins.  Against 3 wide sets, Randall comes in to cover TY Hilton, and against 4 wide sets, Xavien Howard comes in to cover their WR4.  As varied as Seoul’s weapon are, we have an answer to any potential offensive sets they can scheme.

Our run defense is ridiculous, with our front 4 as strong as it gets against the run and our LBs more than stout.  In short yardage, Bowman and McKinney will blitz gaps and stuff Ajayi, who I don’t see having much of an impact here.  Jay’s stats are impressive from his rookie year, but he basically is hit or miss.  He’s going to miss here

Seoul Writeup:

Offense

This is an exciting matchup between one of the best defenses in BDL against one of the best offenses. Gotham offers a serious challenge for our offensive line, depending on how healthy Watt is. What we will try to do then is to run the ball and throw short passes to our receivers.

Patrick DiMarco will come in for 25%-30% of the snaps, maybe more if we have a lead to protect to lead the way to our RBs. Jay Ajayi gets 60% of the snaps, Crowell 30% and Charles Sims will be our RB on passing downs. With their powerful style of running; Ajayi and Crowell can tire out Gotham defensive front and holes will open up at some point.

Gotham weakness on defense (and it’s a relative weakness to be honest) is the middle of the field. We think we can throw there to Kelce, Witten and Sims when he’s on the field. We will also target Green and Hilton on slant and dig routes.

Outside, we think AJ Green can beat Norman since he dominated him IRL last year, and we won’t be afraid to target him. Hilton and Watkins will be a little less involved at first but we figure Gotham will have some point bring Chancellor in the box. That’s when we will attack downfield to Green, Hilton, Watkins and Kelce, with a RB staying in pass protection.

Defense

Gotham offense is much more underwhelming than their defense and we think we have the advantage here. Our first job will be to stop the run and we will have Adams playing in the box to help that. Derrick Henry is a good running back but he shares the workload with another player IRL when he is the only active RB on Gotham roster this week. We think he will get tired at some point, putting more pressure on Stafford/Wentz and the rest of the offense to score.

Gotham best weapon is Eifert and we will use the best cover LB in the NFL in Hicks to shut him down. Robert Alford, highly motivated after not being extended by Gotham, will stay with Landry, whether it’s outside or in the slot. Thomas will be shut down by Darius Slay, leaving Maxwell with Perriman, Darboh or Conley, which he should be able to take care of. Mike Adams gets the RB

With good individual coverage, we think we can get creative in our blitzing. Ryan Shazier will either blitz or compensate a blitz 80% of the time, with the other 20% where he will drop in middle coverage. Kurt Coleman will either stay in deep coverage or cover on top of Eifert .

Gotham has some good offensive tackles and we will rotate heavily our edge rushers to keep them fresh and give those tackles trouble. But their guards are terrible, they may have to start AJ Cann there, and we think our inside DL rotation, with Atkins, McCoy, Bailey (who had a sack this week) and McGee can disrupt Stafford or Wentz pocket.

Good old Pheltz, living like it's 2011

Also, Perriman and his 500 career yards shouldn't be on the bench of any BDL team, let alone start

I'm going to go with Seoul simply because it's a close game and Stafford can't exactly throw 50+ times like he would in this game and not expect the defense to adjust to it. Gotham has no RBs to rotate with Henry who would struggle to find running lanes against a dominant front seven. 14-23 Seoul.

Gotham being so thin is the gamebreaker in what is a nice matchup. A better 3rd option at WR over Perriman and I think there's a very good chance they could've troubled a suspect back 7 on the Seoul side. Ultimately the team with the better weapons wins out in what should be a pretty fun shootout.

Seoul with the curious decision to put maxwell on perriman instead of Landry leaves Gotham a shot on offense as I think Landry can own Alford

On the flip side, Sammy looked good this week for Seoul and if he keeps it up can provide the last part to an awesome offense.,  Seoul is gonna need better guard play in the long run because they both struggled mightily this weekbut Hilton sholuld be able to have a big day against Randall with an actual competent NFL QB.

Both teams are gonna have a lot of trouble scoring, but I'm gonna take the home team in a struggle

Seoul 16-13

With Gotham relying on a balanced attack and there only being one  only running back on roster, I don't see Henry actually having the endurance to last through the game thus putting more pressure on Stafford to perform at a ultimate level. Vote goes to Seoul.
