Tony Jones takes it 84 yards on the first play for ND in the 2nd half.  Irish are cruising 27-6.  Good to see they showed up to play today.  Motivation can sometimes be a question for teams in the non-NY6 bowls.

LOL, it can also be a question for teams in the NY6, just ask some of Georgia's players last year.

The fact that both Boise State and Memphis lost their bowl games is huge for both Appalachian State and their conference, the Sun Belt. Those were the two G5 teams ranked higher than the Mountaineers in all 3 major polls. And App State won their bowl game.

The Sun Belt in its 19-season existence as a football conference has never won a "mid-major national championship" (finishing as the highest-ranked non-Power 5 team in the polls).

But App State is used to winning national titles. They won 3 FCS titles in a row from 2005-07, the last one in the same season they upset #5 Michigan.

This App State team is easily the best football team in Sun Belt Conference history, and they are only in their fifth year as a full FBS member.

If App State leaps above Big 12 expansion candidates Boise State and Memphis in the final polls this will be a really big deal.

I mean, Boise lost to Washington and Memphis lost to Penn State while Appalachian State beat...UAB. Much different level of competition in bowl opponents there.

Cal won an effective home game at the 49ers stadium

Perhaps Cal and Stanford should explore playing The Big Game there every year. It is a larger and more modern venue than either Memorial Stadium or Stanford Stadium. Plus they can split the ticket sales and divide their fans along the 50, like Oklahoma-Texas.
