For whatever reason the idiots at PFF didn't even deem AJ Dillon good enough to rate?  I think we might have taken him a round early, but there is absolutely no excuse for a major outlet like that not to at least grade the guy.

It is what it is at this juncture.

Because we wanted Love in our future - an interesting comment/concept when considered - we didnt have a fourth.
Which I believe altered our entire draft. People can get so hooked on and biased by the "positional value" chart that they minimize the "What do WE value and need as an organization" chart.

AJD and JD were wants by this front office - that wouldnt have been there (based on their valuations) in the 5th.

Oh well. Our 2020 season didnt die with this draft. It got supplemented so as to be better.

Did not like the pick in the 3rd round, think comparisons to Delanie Walker given the significant speed differential are ridiculous, but am certainly hoping he turns into MLF's Juszczyk.

Agreed. We could've gotten him in the 5th and picked AJ Dillon at 94 here.

IDK if this has been mentioned, but we looked at a very similar prospect in Andrew Beck last year, but never took the gamble. Deguara's the better prospect and has far greater production.

Was Richard Rodgers not available ?

Lol, good one but he's significantly better athlete than that.

I think Degaura is going to be a good player, fan favorite, very savvy, and super reliable. But like others have said, the value wasn't the best.

The funny part is that RR was/is an absolutely "average" pick. His career contribution to this point is what you can expect from someone drafted in his slot.

Yeah for sure. I'm just highlighting Degaura sure didn't' run a 4.87 like RR and even my dumbass can see watching him play that he can move with the ball in his hands a lot better than DickRod can. Both of them look to have good hands.

Did someone really throw a Richard Rodger reference out there?!?... Awful!

After checking in on the 80's Packers a little bit, a decent Packer comp may be Paul Coffman... That would be a good thing.

I saw his nfl.com draft profile and he is compared to Tyler Conklin who was taken in the 5th round.

But what about his Minnesota teammate, Irv Smith Jr? They're practically identical in terms of measurables and metric. He was taken in the 2nd round. So from a talent level perspective Degaura is closer to Irv Smith. Their college production in their final seasons were similar too. Deguara just turned 23 in February whilst Irv Smith wont turn 22 til August.

But are they similar players at all? Do they even play the same roles? Irv Smith looks slimmer and lighter on his feet whereas Degaura is thicker and heavier footed.

Screw it, I'm just non-sober enough to state my ridiculously outlandish prediction:

I fully think this dude is going to be the one. He's going to be the H-Back that finally does it. The one that finally, actually gives credence to all the freaking coachs that just know they'll be the ones to make it work.

Look I get it. I actually like the idea of the role, and I get the principle behind why coaches keep thinking it'll work, but there's been like five legit difference makers at the position I can remember in the last fifteen years or so. Like, not even elite, just even Chris Cooley level guys. It just always seems to underwhelm because you end up with a mediocre blocker who offers less value per target than any other player on the field.

But I honestly think this kid is gonna buck the trend. Today, I am the drunk Uncle on top of the trailer, in his wife beater, screaming "this kids gonna make it just you wait and see!" I have a thing for natural football players and the dude is as good as we have on the team. Lines up anywhere, runs good routes, knows how to set up a final move, can catch on the run and offers a little burst after the catch. The game just plays very slow for him, and I'll be interested if he can find that in the pros. Those players sometimes struggle early on and never find their footing, but I'm predicting he ends up contributing about 400 yards this year. Think his value as a FB that's extremely comfortable running routes out of the slot makes him an ideal player to bridge the gap between Rodgers and LeFleur. 12 personnel can become 11 personnel very quickly, because he has the actual comfort level to break in and out from the slot. Combine him with Sternberger if the also turns out, and you have a nice collection of guys that you can win in the run game against DBs and win in the pass game against LBers. I think he could accumulate a surprising number of targets if he continually draws guys who struggle in coverage on 1st-2nd down.

When you were expecting to be an UDFA and get drafted in the 3rd round... lol

He’s exactly the intelligent type of player that the Pats like to draft for specific roles.  That’s where I thought he might end up.

Packers management had minimal conversations with him before the draft.  Definitely didn’t tip their hand on their interest.

To bad they can’t measure ones football IQ and the size of their heart at the combine.  That would help solve a lot of the ratings discrepancies.

In today's NFL with specialists and special packages, it's harder and harder to be the jack of all trades, master of none. As MBG said above, that's what an H-Back usually is, and that's what Degaura is. So what does it come down to IMO ? Scheme and creativity. There were times when watching the 49ers offense that my jaw actually dropped. Not so much because of the success, but the creativity. Like 5 or 6 plays strung together that were genius. Oh yea. That's great news for Juszczyk. I certainly haven't yet seen that type of creativity from MLF's offense. That will be the difference between Degaura being a weapon or a 3rd round blocker.
