Yeah.... for me it comes down to compensation and the new contract he wants.  I know he’s a talented young player but trading a 1st AND giving top 5 position money for a guy with a neck injury doesn’t seem like a move that will pay off.

Honestly.... I’m not big on trading a 1st for a player that we’d have to extend.... almost ever.  Right now would you trade Yannick (13m), #17 and a player we can sign for 7m for Hunter?  Not me!

And it’s a neck injury- they scare me!  What if he re-injuries it year 1 and is done.... and now you have to Take a 20+M cap hit?  Sure all players can get hurt at any time,,, heck even when off the field.... cut neck injuries Are a different monster.  They’re very easy to happen again- and worse.

One of the best DE's in football when healthy but I think we're set at DE now that we have YN and you're right he would want 20+ which we can not afford to do with so many others holes to fill.

I am now fascinated to see how we address the interior DL.  I would like to double dip on Rankins and S. Thomas for 10 million total.  That would give us some rotational pieces along the front.

Well we most definitely have a need at RB2 now. I wonder if we go the vet route ie Peterson or maybe draft one in round 3-7. Maybe both?

Jamaal Williams!!! I’ve been plotting in him since his draft year and again last year when he was rumored to be on the trade block.  He’s a hard, kinda bigger build RB who can actually catch the ball too.

Yeah that’s the idea.... I’ve said it 1000x you should never pay G’s big money.... just draft a G in rounds 4-5 nearly every year. If you don’t hit on them to become starters then sign a good stop gap for >4M.  But look around the league: rosters are filled with very good G’s who are 4th/5th round picks or later.

It’s an oversaturated position.

He’s definitely a great player when healthy and still very young.... but now that we have Yannick their isn’t a NEED to take such a BIG risk.  Really there isn’t a NEED at all because GB’s defense calls for one LEO and one 5T DE...: which is Ferrell.... plus Crosby is the pass rushing specialist from that side now.

exactly what I was thinking ^  probably be better off just cutting him. Bears prolly draft someone

Unless we are planning on signing another name, which seems increasingly unlikely, I actually prefer holding onto both he and and Brown til the draft and see if some magic can't happen there.

If we absolutely need the cap space for someone, sure, but if not I really wouldn't bother. Either we find a trade partner eventually or we can just keep him in case Carr goes down or we wind up cutting him one way or the other.

Who knows, when he realizes his market is prettt well and dried up as far as getting much in the way of suitors offering guaranteed money, maybe his team changes their tune about his contract and wants to become more tradable. There are still some suitors there (ie: I bet Washington would still bite if the terms were a bit nicer; Seattle and Houston are still up in the air; Chicago maybe?) they're just not all AS desperate anymore.

Wilson and Watson are almost guaranteed to be playing elsewhere next year. Absent just swapping teams, someone is going to be left out of that sweepstakes.

a team could just sign Jacoby Brisset... there's still a lot of good OL, Wrs, DTs, DBS in free agency that can help this team.

I absolutely agree.... i believe that’s a result of college OTs with length or speed issues kicking inside and even Tall C’s who can often struggle with leverage move to C.

to go further... the 6’3 to 6’5,300-340 body type is just way more common then the 6’6-6’9, 300-335 body type. There’s 2 reasons OTs go way higher in the draft then G’s: their far more valuable to a team and their far,far more rare.

I don’t know how Jamie Newman has fallen from a 1st round pick (well he all know he was NEVER a preseason 1st round pick.... just like Jevon Snead was never ever going to be #1 overall or Shea Patterson was a 1st rounder .... to now being ranked as a 5th or 6th rounder.  I’d seriously seriously consider drafting Newman to develop into the role that We all WANTED Mariota to play.

The thing is that if you know how football works guard is the entry level offensive line position. It’s the entry level to Center and tackle so if you can’t play any of those you can always just switch the guard.

I was thinking about it, depends how free agency plays out. Could be a good 4th rounder

Exactly....that’s a perfect analogy!  I’m stealing that one.... if you don’t mind.
