patriotsheatyan
Who would win a seven game series, the 2008 Lions with an extra player on the field, plus a 61 man active roster (which includes their practice squad) vs the 2007 Patriots who play by normal rules. Three games on each teams home field, game seven on a neutral field. One week before every game to prepare. Who wins?
DingoLadd
2008 lions go 4-3. An extra player on the field is an absolute game changer and that should be able to net them at least 3 wins.
Danger
I think it'd be an offensive shootout, The extra player for the Lions of offense would be too OP. The extra player on defense would be a big boost but still manageable. I went with the Pats though.
BayRaider
I don't think the extra defensive playet would mean too much but the extra offensive player would make a huge difference. I wanna say Lions 4-3 but none of us can answer this with any kind of certainty.

The ability to add a rusher without sacrificing anyone in coverage EVERY SINGLE PLAY is incredibly impactful. Lions sweep 4-0 under this scenario IMO. VegasOdds101
You have arguably the best regular season team of all time vs arguably the worst regular season team of all time. I doubt adding one (assuming avg. crappy Lions player) is going to make much of a difference.

Hunter2_1
Considering Moss was literally catching balls above 2-3 defenders, I'd say it wouldnt matter if you gave the Lions an extra defender.

Considering that the sole loss the Patriots took was to a team that could effectively rush four and drop seven, adding extra bodies to rush and keeping coverage at seven is an absolute advantage. I don't care how bad a team was, i don't care how good the opponent is - adding an additional NFL calibur player on the field is an unfair advantage, and the team with the extra body wins. I'd say it's not as cut and dry as that. I've seen Brady put in TDs with "12 men on the field", which I know is a ridiculous argument but it shows that it's not a guarantee that a 12men team become unstoppable. RandyMossIsBoss
Good question. I think Lions could pull it out. NFL is a numbers game, that extra man would make a monumental difference. The run game would be all but dead for NE, you cannot win a 9 v 12 battle. Pats would have to rely on passing game, where they'd probably have to use 7 blockers since Detroit could rush 6 and drop back 6. Assuming they can prevent pressure with 7 blockers against Lions' weak front, that makes it 3 WRs vs 6 defenders in coverage. Moss could obviously make some classic catches over multiple defenders, but you can't rely on that. On offense the Lions would probably be smart to just employ an extra WR and methodically march up the field since a WR would almost always be open early unless the Pats started only rushing 3. You have to consider that the team that did that also had an extremely dominant defense and uniquely matched up against that Patriots team very well in a way the rest of the league didn't. And they only barely won with a lot of luck. The Lions are a very bad team with a handicap that still don't match up well and should get slaughtered in a 50 point route. A Lions defense with an extra man isn't going to all of a sudden replicate. A 4 man pass rush by that team is still not nearly as effective as the match up that beat them. Yeah it's an unfair advantage, but this is a really lopsided match up to start with.
Hunter2_1
I change my answer. Patriots would be blowing them out until the 4th Quarter, where Stafford would begin to actually start playing, and run it close.
