Until there’s actually a method to hold officials accountable, it’s not getting fixed any time soon.

There should be an extra official assigned to each game who isn't on the field and has the authority to call blatant misses. But you're right, the NFL isn't going to do anything about it.

Dan Reeves, an NFL player, assistant coach and head coach who retired having participated in a then-record nine Super Bowls, has died at the age of 77.

A quarterback at South Carolina better known for his running ability than his passing, Reeves signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cowboys in 1965 and initially was asked to try to make the roster on defense and special teams, but when the Cowboys had injuries at halfback and decided to give Reeves a try at the position, he flourished.

Reeves’ best season as a player came in 1966, when he led the NFL with 16 touchdowns. In eight seasons with the Cowboys, Reeves had 1,990 rushing yards and 1,693 receiving yards, and he totaled 42 touchdowns. He played in two Super Bowls, helping the Cowboys win Super Bowl VI. He then joined the Cowboys’ coaching staff as an assistant to Tom Landry, where he coached in three more Super Bowls.

In 1981, the Broncos hired Reeves as their head coach, making him the youngest head coach in the NFL at the time. In 1983 the Broncos acquired John Elway, and Reeves and Elway got to the Super Bowl together after the 1986, 1987 and 1989 seasons. But they lost all three Super Bowls, Reeves and Elway began to have a personal falling out, and Reeves was fired after an 8-8 season in 1992.

Reeves then spent the next four years coaching the Giants, and he was named the NFL’s Coach of the Year in 1993, but the Giants declined after that and he was fired again following the 1996 season. The Falcons hired him in 1997, and in 1998, the Falcons had one of the most unexpected Super Bowl appearances in NFL history, winning the NFC Championship Game and facing Elway and the Broncos in the Super Bowl, where Reeves’ Falcons lost.

That was Reeves’ ninth and final Super Bowl appearance, setting a new NFL record for the most combined appearances by a player or coach. (That total has since been surpassed by Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.)

I can’t say I’m a fan of Roethlisberger, the person. But I can’t imagine what it would feel like to have a player on the Vikings with the legacy that Roethlisberger has had with the Steelers.

Someday, hopefully.

We haven't had that since Fran Tarkenton...and a lot of us here were either toddlers or not even born when he retired, so we don't know that feeling.

Fran... an enormously entertaining and exciting player to follow at the time.

when he retired he owned all the major NFL records a QB could have, and his career playing time included being with  some dreadful NYG teams. his records stood for 15 years or so, until broken by Marino. Then Favre, then Manning, and now Brees and Brady.

so that's the company his skillset was in.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in the market for a new wide receiver, and Hall-of-Famer Terrell Owens is making his pitch to the team just in time for the postseason. Minutes after Antonio Brown ran off the field, Owens took to Twitter to offer his services to the Bucs.

“#PLAYOFFTO @Buccaneers,” Owens tweeted on January 2.

Owens has not played in an NFL game since 2010, when the receiver posted 72 receptions for 983 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games with the Bengals. It is unrealistic for Owens to play for the first time in more than a decade, but it is unclear how serious the former star receiver was about a potential return. When a Philadelphia sports radio station retweeted his post with laughter emojis, Owens responded by asking, “What’s so funny?”

With the reveal still nearly one month away, many fans have speculated what the franchise's new name will be. On Tuesday, NBC Sports' partner PointsBet USA came up with hypothetical odds for the club's next name.

'Washington Football Team,' the club's current name, is still the hypothetical betting favorite (+300), followed by 'Presidents' (+500) and 'Red Hogs' (+600).
