Some interesting takes in this article

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/2022-nba-mock-draft-dukes-paolo-banchero-moves-up-and-iowas-keegan-murray-jumps-into-top-five/

my takeaways are that more folks should be talking about Skyy Moore as a possible pick for he Pack at 28. And with a name like that you can't go wrong.

I'm reading a lot of folks who like Arnold Ebiketie and he could be a solid 1st round pick as well.

I've been pining for a big, elite DL with a first pick, but I'm starting to come around to the idea that unless they can be counted on to rush the QB on 3rd (and 4th) down then you may was well pick a run stopper in a later round. So even if Jordan Davis were to fall to us, then perhaps we pass on him too.

Did you read other posters' comments about Matt LaFleur wanting a WR group like a basketball team and start researching the NBA draft?   That angle would make an NBA mock a more interesting read...

I might suck at 1-3 at the casino but I'll win big betting on the Packers not drafting Paulo Banchero or Keegan Murray....

Do we?   I mean in comparison to every other team in the league?   Adams and MVS are a real loss and Jenkins hurt but otherwise we return almost everyone - including two All-Pros in Jaire and Bakh that barely contributed last year.   Lucas Patrick would be nice but he's not really moving the needle for Super Bowl aspirations and fairly certain any pick at all can replace the 18 snaps Smith gave us.   Most of what we need are depth pieces, we don't have to draft frontline starters - that puts in a very enviable position vs the rest of the NFL.  The only glaring weakness is the WR talent pool and that will get addressed.

I hear what you are saying, especially with Jaire and Bakhitari coming back. But hear me out. I'm not comparing us to the rest of the league, I'm comparing us to a us, a team that was close to winning the super bowl. Close but no cigar. I think everyone is abundantly clear that we lost our top two receivers and Cobb is getting older every day. We all know it takes time to develop trust with AR and he's not going to throw to you until you've earned it. We lost big time contributors on the offensive line like Lucas Patrick (who you mentioned) and Billy Turner our right tackle. Now you may have penciled in their replacements, and I have too, but it's hard to project if they can easily be replaced. We also lost our starting slot corner for the last several years, Chandon Sullivan, who wasn't a big name, but there's no denying that we depended on him a lot. We also lost Za'Darius Smith, and while he was out the whole year you might think the other Smith and Gary filled in nicely, but the truth is without a healthy Z we weren't half as feared rushing the QB. There is some statistic out there showing this, but I'm having a tough time tracking it down. We also don't have a 3rd safety (who plays a ton in this defense) and like you said we are lacking a ton of depth to help us weather the inevitable injuries. And we lost several of our core (un)special teams players as well. I assume that Jaire, Bakh and Myers will all return as starters next year, but I don't know that for sure. I assumed Bak was coming back last year and never really did. And hopefully the new punter will work out. Point is, we'll need our draft guys to help us make up for several losses.

I figure the primary goals of the draft in terms of needs are:

1) Rebuild the WR room (they have like 1 guy under contract for 2023, and that's Amari Rodgers)
2) Add a respectable pass rusher so you can cycle those guys in and out of the game.
3) Add a DL since Lowry might be gone after this year and you're a little light in that group anyway.
4) Add an OL who can play RT/RG since we don't know when Jenkins will be back.
5) TE of the future, since Big Dog can't play forever and Tonyan is on a one year deal.

Probably you might also want to pick up a 3rd safety/4th CB guy.

I have S at the same level as DL, but yeah pretty much I agree on everything else.  Ideally a S who can play slot receivers.

Peter Bukowski -   Over the last 20 years, the #Packers have taken a Day 2 EDGE just one time: Kyler Fackrell. They've taken them either on Day 1 or Day 3 developmental guys. I wouldn't be surprised if they took that approach to this draft; Get a first-round edge or wait.

Interesting take. I'd take it with a grain of salt though. If the value isn't there in Rd 1, there is a lot of value to be had in Rd 2.  Drake Jackson, Cameron Thomas, Arnold Ebikete, even some of the old guys might be a viable pick at the end of Rd 2.

I think EDGE is really getting overlooked because of what happened at WR when Davante left.

One SI Writer says he's been hearing GB is looking at EDGE early (22), which could be BS of course.

I was told to watch for the edge position here, but Treylon Burks being available changes everything (in this world that I, alone, have created)

Good list, but your honorable mention might be as high as #3--especially if it's someone like Daxton Hill who could give you a slot this year and starting safety by next year. I'd say:

1) WR

2) EDGE

3) OL

4) S/slot CB

5) DL

6) TE

Not sure that's the case as I've read lots of projections that had the Purdue guy going to GB in the first round. I think the thrust of Bukowski's comment was GB seems to hit the position early - or drop back to later rounds - bypassing the 2nd round most often. Why? I've no clue.....but it wouldnt surprise me if we nabbed an EDGE in the first....then move up to nail Pickens, Burks etc before they're gobbled up by others!  LOL

LOL

Speaking of James Lofton, Chris Christl has a new article out the HOF WR

https://www.packers.com/news/lofton-evoked-memories-of-hutson-with-his-dominance

Lofton was picked number 6 in the 1978 draft...which led off with Earl Campbell at # 1

https://www.drafthistory.com/index.php/years/1978

Ron Wolf, who was working for the Los Angeles Raiders when Lofton played there, said, "Dynamite player. Goodness gracious! Prototypical wide receiver. Could do everything.
People don't realize what a good blocker he was."

And here we are 44 years later looking at WRs in the draft... and wondering if they can block too.

Just for kicks, here's how the roster turnover looks across the league

https://overthecap.com/roster-turnover-in-the-nfl/

"To say NFL rosters are unstable is certainly an understatement. On average only 56% of players return from one year to the next and two years out it is just around 35% "

Order up!

1. WR Pickens (1), Ezukanma (4)

2. DE Thomas (2)

3. DL Ridgeway (4)

4. OL Rhyan (2)

5. TE Otten (3)

6. S Cine  (trade 1->2)
