Bad Team All-Stars

The rules are that the player must start 10 or more games on a team that won 5 or fewer. This, for example, allows Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin (1989), and Emmitt Smith (2000). That said, consider the quality of the player in those seasons. Great players at the beginning and end of their careers are often less than great.

Special rule for 1982--Start 6 games on a team that won 3 or fewer.

This is a compilation of the Chiefs, from an article, missing six of the front seven. I will differ on LCB, who should be Albert Lewis 1988. I think you could improve on Bowe as well.

Hall of Fame noted, but not Pro-Bowl or All Pro. There would be too many.

CHIEFS

Offense

  • WR1 — Carlos Carson, 1987
  • LT — Jim Tyrer, 1963
  • LG — Brian Waters, 2009
  • C — Jack Rudnay, 1975
  • RG — Tom Condon, 1978
  • RT — Jim Nicholson, 1976
  • TE — Tony Gonzalez, 2008 HoF
  • WR2 — Dwayne Bowe, 2008
  • QB — Len Dawson, 1963 HoF
  • RB1 — Jamaal Charles, 2012
  • RB2 — Tony Reed, 1978

Defense

  • SS — Bobby Hunt, 1963
  • FS — Deron Cherry, 1988
  • RCB — Emmitt Thomas, 1974 HoF
  • LCB — Brandon Flowers, 2009
  • MLB — Willie Lanier, 1975 HoF
  • WLB — Derrick Johnson, 2007
  • RDE — Jared Allen, 2007
  • LDE — Art Still, 1978
  • DT — Buck Buchanan, 1963 HoF
  • DT — Jerry Mays, 1963

Update with remaining players. As noted elsewhere, I would have Albert Lewis at CB over Flowers and Henry Marshall at WR over Bowe. You could argue all day about Mays vs Bill Maas.

As a franchise, the Chiefs have had remarkably few bad periods.

Cortez Kennedy won DPOY playing for a 2-14 team, which is still insane to me.

anyway, for the Patriots it's hard to put a team together because you'd have to reach back a ways to find a truly bad team, but here goes.

Jared Allen covers one of the two DE. Derrick Johnson would have to be WLB, because Willie Lanier is MLB. The problem with Buchanon is that he was on a bad team only his rookie year and at age 35. He qualifies, but meh. I think I'd go with Art Still, who could also be DE. At LB, Jim Lynch and Gary Spani come to mind.

It's a little unreal that one of Jared Allan's best seasons was for a 2-win team.

Did Kuechly ever play in a qualifying team?

Yes--2019.

He started all 16, had 144 tackles, 12 PD, 2 picks, and a safety.

This is an excellent example of the type, an elite player having a good year for a bad team. Some of the best stat years in history are in this type of season, particularly for safeties. On the same team, SS Eric Reid had 130 tackles, 4 sacks, 7 TFL and a FF.

I haven't seen him make a team on this thread yet. I can only assume people overlooked that season you refer to, because Luke was immense.
