Lancaster Offensive Strategy:

Things are…not great for our offensive line this week. While we feel that we’ve gotten some adequate replacements for the most part, it’s still now a weakness on the team. We’ve been pretty unlucky in many ways this week but we’ve got two pieces of luck that we think can win us this game. First, luckily for us we don’t think Seoul necessarily has the firepower on the DL to take full advantage of this weakness. Secondly, we get one more week of Russell Wilson. We’re going to spread out their defense and go with a quick passing game to win this one.

We need to take full advantage of our last week of Russell Wilson so we’re going pass heavy again. Firstly, we’re going to run a lot of 4 WR sets with Quez Watkins and Michael Strachan both rotating in heavily to keep everybody fresh. By spreading out the defense with our weapons, we limit their ability to blitz. We’re going to do a lot of quick concept stuff like slants and curls with occasional deep shots down the field to take advantage of the deep threats we have and keep Seoul honest on the back end. We’ll also be doing plenty of screens to Diontae Johnson and Curtis Samuel so they can use their ability to make guys miss in open space.

To bolster the blocking, we’re not going to have Miles Sanders split out wide very often and he’ll mostly be staying in to help block. Fournette will see a bigger share of snaps this week so we can use his pass blocking ability as well. We’re going to do plenty of 11 personnel too where Firkser stays in to block as well. And then finally, our running game isn’t the focus this week but we feel comfortable running against this front 7 when we do. As usual we want to get Miles Sanders running to the outside so he can be used in space and Fournette will get a lot of the inside run work.

Lancaster Defensive Strategy:

On defense we only really have the one big loss, but it’s a significant one with Jaire Alexander. Luckily again we feel that Seoul doesn’t have the personnel to take full advantage of this loss with their WR room. We’re going to focus on taking away Travis Kelce and making the rest of the Seoul offense beat us. The other key for us defensively is that we want to straight up harass Jalen Hurts all day long and with Ronnie Stanley out again we think we can do that.

In coverage Ramsey will be covering Sammy Watkins with Donte Jackson on Brandin Cooks. Covering the two tight ends is the real challenge in this one. To start, we’re bringing in Taylor Rapp this game over Logan Ryan because of his better size. Fred Warner will be covering Kelce with help from Rapp over the top. Vonn Bell will cover Pat Freiermuth. Trae Waynes will cover/spy the RB and Bobby Wagner will spy the QB. If they take off Friermuth for a 3rd WR, Waynes will cover that WR and Bell will cover/spy the RB instead.

We expect to get tons of push in the pass rush department today. Bosa and Watt should feast on Reiff at LT and Eichenberg at RT. We also expect lots of interior pressure with Kenny Clark and Javon Kinlaw. We just want our DL to focus on rushing the passer and getting upfield after Hurts.

Offensive Strategy

Formations:
Seoul will rotate between 12 man and 11 man personnel this week.

Scheme:  Pass (50%)vs Run (50% )
Tempo:  Up Tempo,  we want to tire out the Lancaster DL

Passing

We will once again be rotating between 12 and 11 man personnel in the pass game this week.    We will split Kelce out into the slot with 11 man personnel.     We look to run mostly RPO’s and work the short passing game out of this formation.    Mecole Hardman will be our motion man and receive a few jet sweeps if we catch them in man coverage often.    We want to keep the Lancaster edges busy with containment.    We will stick with chipping the Lancaster edges out of our 12 man personnel group,  we look to push the envelope a little bit on the outside.   We don’t forsee Lancaster blitzing often,  but if they come blitz heavy we will throw a few screens at them with Gibson in the 2nd half.

Rushing

Lancaster comes in a formidable starting DL.    We want to use RPO and QB reads to keep them at bay early.   Gibson and Williams will stay in rotation to keep both backs fresh, we will rotate by series to keep the mid drive substitutions to a minimum.    We keep rolling with zone concepts, as both our backs have excellent vision and do a great job at finding cut back lanes.  Getting his first start NFL start last week, we welcome Spencer Brown to the OL and believe he will a big addition to our rush offense.

Defensive Strategy

Formation:  3-3-5(70%),  2-4-5(15%), 1-5-5(15%)

2-4-5
DL:  Foley Fatukasi
DL:  Jarran Reed
Edge:  Joe Tryon
Edge: Leonard Floyd
MLB: Isaiah Simmons
LB:  Joe Schobert
CB:  Chidobe Awuzie
CB: Paulson Adebo
NB: Nate Hobbs
DB: Taron Johnson
FS: Marcus Williams

1-5-5
NT: Jarran Reed
LB: Joe Tryon
LB: Matt Judon
LB: Payton Turner
LB: Isaiah Simmons
LB: Joe Schobert
CB: Chidobe Awuzie
CB: Paulson Adebo
NB: Kristian Fulton
DB: Taron Johnson
FS: Marcus Williams

Formation Schemes
We won’t look to switch defense fronts as often this week,  we will operate mostly out of our 3-3-5, 4 CB look this week.    We will look to move Franklin-Myers inside and out in this formation, while moving our other Edge to show different looks.   There will be times when Franklin-Myers and Judon are rushing from the same side.    Healthy rotation on the DL, we don’t want our starters playing much more than 60% of the snaps.

Run Defense
We will come and look to give up more with the running game.    We want to put more emphasis on stopping Lancaster through the air.    We think our front 4 can do enough to stop the ran, without throwing a ton into the gameplan.    If Lancaster does come out run heavy,   we will look to adjust for a few series,  but move back to the original gameplan.

Pass Rush
We think we can attack Lancaster on the edges,   unfortunately they’ve just been killed with injuries.   John Franklin Myers will do most of his damage from the edge, but will be move into the inside on occasion.    We will look to run stunts with JFM and Judon once he’s move inside.

Pass Defense

Formation – Cover 1 Man(60%),  Cover3/Cover2(40%)

Seoul will again come out with a little more man than zone this week.   Lancaster has some nice weapons on the perimeter, but we think our CB group is improving weekly.    Taron Johnson/Nate Hobbs will play on the inside, as they do an excellent job of preventing YAC.    Lancaster is going to want to showcase Samuel and Johnson more this week, Joe Schobert will be used to bracket the underneath slot.   He will rotate    throughout the game which slot he is bracketing.    Marcus Williams will be sitting deep with a slight shade, over the top, on the other slot WR.  Simmons will stick with the RB all game.  If they decide to go 5 WR  Simmons will shift out,  and we will shift to a cover 3 zone.

Matchups for man coverage;

Chidobe Awuzie -  Mike Evans
Paulson Adebo -  Pittman Jr.
Nate Hobbs -   C. Samuel
Taron Johnson -  D. Johnson
Isaiah Simmons -  RB
Joe Schobert -    Bracket

"Not great" is a bit of an understatement about the Lancaster offensive line here. That said, Wilson is used to playing with a bad offensive line and Lancaster is going to get tons of pressure on Jalen Hurts, who isn't lighting the world on fire this season (although he's not playing badly either). Gonna go with Wilson handling the pressure better and making more plays in what is possibly a last hurrah for him with Lancaster.
