Broncofan
Orginally reported by reporter Troy Renck but the IR piece shows why GM Paton went out and got an ILB now. Why we got destroyed on the ground the last 6 Q. No risk on our end and at age 26 at worst 2022 depth. A little curious why LAR would do this for a late day 3 swap. Rams fans weigh in? NVRamsFan
Very confusing since he was our best ILB this year even with a couple rough games. Clearly the Rams want to move rookie Ernest Jones into the starting role plus this saves us about $1.2 million which combined may be the reason for the move plus he's in the last year of his rookie deal. BroncoBruin
If he’s a playable NFL linebacker, it’s a massive upgrade.
minutemancl
Going from Kenny Young to Ernest Jones is a massive, massive downgrade.

That's the only reason this deal makes any type of sense. I still don't see the value for LA. He would probably get paid when he walks, which would could net you a compensatory selection that would be greater than what you netted in this trade. Kenny Young can play. He can but Les Snead loves him some 6th round picks. He'd likely just trade a higher comp pick down for a couple 6th's. And I get the part you bolded 100%, most of us doing Rams mock off season's almost always had him being cut or traded to save that bit of salary. Edit: Also worth noting that since the Arizona game his snaps (aside from the game he was ejected) went from 100% to 55-65% of defensive snaps. Something had changed with the coaches perception of him. Rams fans have felt all year we needed more at ILB so maybe the coaches think Jones provides that. He was solid in preseason and camp but that's practices and he's a rookie ILB. Edited October 25, 2021 by NVRamsFan

ronjon1990
But...why? Dude is very solid ILB. Rams got worked on this one. I wouldn't have let him go for less than a 4th or high 5th. Adding a 7th just to get a 6th? Wow.
El Ramster
Dumb dumb move. He’s been super solid for us. The risk vs reward here is stupid. Just doesn’t make sense. You’re trying to win it all this year.

The Ravens did exactly this with the same player haha it seems weird that he's already been traded twice when he's always been a rather solid ILB with a lot of potential. NYRamsFan88
Either the Rams coaches believe we have someone on the roster who can make similar (or better) contributions to the team, or they’re eyeing someone on the FA market, my money is on the latter. Is this the same dude that was on the Ravens? Wasnt he a S and not a LB?

FrantikRam
Yea the only reason this makes sense is if we're going to trade for someone. Feels like it'll be a CB with the Cardinals/Cowboys/Bucs all having three legit WRs and our third CB being fairly shaky all year. Youngs play has been super inconsistent - particularly his tackling. Some games he looks amazing, others like a below average player. Guessing if nothing else, Jones will be a better tackler. Rams have always completely disrespected the ILB position under McVay. I also wonder if we will be playing Burgess more while having Rapp play LB on passing downs.
