@DefenseWinsChampionships Check the logic. It could be OR instead of AND

Money is money so trading Collins might mean keeping Cooper or Lawrence.

But why do they need to trade away a beast OT in order to keep their own players?

"Collins has earned 70.0-plus PFF pass-blocking grades in three straight seasons compared to the 39.7 mark Isaiah Prince posted for the Bengals in 2021".

I don't understand.

Collins has been all over the place with health, good play, bad play, etc,

Like anyone else on any other team you make value judgements based on salary, vs cap savings, vs expected near term and long term future performance.

This even goes for how much and how long the Rams will offer for Von Miller.

  • If he says 4 for 100 they are not going to just write that check.
  • If he says 3 for 33 he probably gets signed today.

Going a step further, and just looking at the way the extension he signed in 2019 is structured, the contract has a pretty clear arm written into it where by there was an "out" of sorts (whereby any further guarantees were avoidable after last season, had they left the contract be), but they went - from what I can see - a little too deep with their cut on the restructure thus making the prorations of unaccounted-cap tougher to work around if you're not looking at him eventually getting a 2nd extension that would take him into his early-to-mid 30's.  And, for when they were executing both the initial extension and the restructuring (to create the space for the extensions of Dak/Cooper/Lawrence/etc), it really wasn't unreasonable to think that going the route of that 2nd extension down the line wouldn't be in the books because there was still the thought that Collins could be their LT to succeed Tyron Smith.  But in the time that has transpired since Smith - albeit battling some injuries of his own - has continued defying Father Time, Collins has had injury issues is successive seasons, during which Terrence Steele has shown himself capable of adequately filling for either, and so effectively Steele has made a strong case to usurp Collins' spot as the usable RT who may well project to replace Smith at LT when he calls it a career, but for considerably cheaper (at least for the next 2-3 seasons).  And the team spent a 4th round pick on Josh Ball last year to boot (although he ended his happy butt up on IR almost as soon as the season started).
