So we only have 2M to work with then, right? lol

Yeah I do not understand the cap at all, take the Packers, they were negative whatever million, 2nd worst in the NFL like -$27 or whatever it was, then changed a few things around and get that back to around $2-4 mil just by changing money into roster bonuses.  Then they go ahead and sign Rodgers, Adams, Campbell and all those dudes they wanted, oh and Preston Smith and only got rid of the other Z. Smith so far.  Then again not sure those Rodgers deals are finished and Adams apparently will not play under that franchise tag so....but still no clue how they got everything they wanted with having only a few million dollars or at least supposedly?

Clearly teams can play with a ton and do things to change everything in terms of spending.  It usually does not make sense, just like it does not make sense why Mason Cole is worth 3 years $15 mil.  And I am assuming that is to be a backup and they sign Linderbaum in the 1st to be their center.

Re: restructures

Hypothetically Does a team have more leverage over a current player, if they ask to restructure the contract (or be cut), a) before FA agrees to terms with teams (on the potential of signing new FAs, with nothing official till Wednesday 4pm) or b) after a FA agrees to terms with teams (and a move must happen before Wednesday 4pm).

Since we extended Cousins, we are in win-now mode, so they need to be plugging holes with the best FAs available, and not wait for those tier 3 guys later on.

Player are almost always good with actual restructures, it means more money today and no less overall ( and since the point is to create cap by using a signing bonus to spread out the cap hit into future years, it actually creates some job security since it increases dead money in future years).  Restructure just means moving money around.  Pay Cuts are different and renegotiations (Like Barr last year) are also different. Heck many contracts have wording that the front office can restructure without even really having to ask.

Are we more or less going to be stuck with Spielmans roster for this season?

Not that its a bad roster, just that we may not have the capital for KAM to KOC to build the team the way that they want to.

They almost have to...as do most when they take over as the new guys.  No one can turn over a roster in 1 year.

Yeah that's true. Our team under Zimmer didn't really take off until 2015 in his second season. That's when the changes were most notable.

That was my expectation going into this. The team is scrapped for cash. Unless they were blown away with offers for Cousins and Hunter, how else were they going to acquire more draft picks or cap space. This team is close to the playoffs, but the defense must get better and the offense less predictable.
