And we have the track record dealing with John Lynch Ballard also called about acquiring him after 2019. In other words, with a QB in place besides Wentz, some believe, the gutting late-season collapse the Colts suffered would have never happened. How about player/coach Byron Leftwich? Quote 6. WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM (NO CHANGE) LT Charles Leno Jr. | 81.1LG Ereck Flowers | 72.0C Chase Roullier | 84.6RG Brandon Scherff | 73.7RT Cornelius Lucas | 75.1 Washington’s offense should have been far better than it was this season given the platform the team was getting from its offensive line. There was no weak link on the unit, especially in pass protection, and even the players who replaced injured starters acquitted themselves well. The dynamics did shift a little with those injuries. Samuel Cosmi, Wes Schweitzer and Chase Roullier earned the three best PFF run-blocking grades, but each missed significant time, and their replacements were better pass-blockers than run-blockers. Quote 12. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (DOWN 1) LT Eric Fisher | 68.6LG Quenton Nelson | 69.8C Ryan Kelly | 56.4RG Mark Glowinski | 71.1RT Braden Smith | 81.2 The Colts just were never able to piece things together in pass protection well enough. They began the season with injuries, but even when their top players returned, they didn’t play to the peak of their powers. Quenton Nelson is one of the best offensive linemen in all of football when healthy, but he earned a 69.7 overall PFF grade this year and a 62.0 pass-blocking mark. The Colts ranked 30th as a unit in pass-blocking efficiency, but they dominated as a run-blocking group, helping pave the way for Jonathan Taylor to lead the league in rushing. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-final-2021-offensive-line-rankings Edited March 9, 2022 by TheRealMcCoy

I understood the Colts taking a shot, but at this point it’s time to call a spade a spade.
TecmoSuperJoe
Even if it's a lateral move at best, the Colts would be winners in the QB leadership department with Jimmy. I think he is stays healthy he'll do fine there. Wouldn't have to worry about much drama. 49ers should just knuckle up and get what they can if the Colts are interested. What is it you think Jimmy will fetch? Couple of mid round picks? Agreed on the leadership part. You could argue Wentz is the better QB rn, but it's pretty marginal if he is. Both Wentz and Jimmy do some dumb stuff with the football.

As a fan I'd be fine with a 3rd and maybe a 4th/5th and taking on that contract. Seems fair to me. Regardless, Colts need to obviously keep looking for the long term triggerman even if they fetch him. I would have to think that anywhere Jimmy goes, he shouldn't be surprised that sooner rather than later his replacement will be acquired. Would suck for him to be in that situation again, but at the same time he's the last person on Earth to mope in mental anguish about it. That's the net positive for Jim. Tugboat
Pretty impressive the way Wentz manages to walk that line of clearly not being good enough, but still showing enough flashes of upside, and having enough pedigree to still have teams willing to take a flyer on him. Usually by this point in a career...a guy drafted that high like this has either become a "bust" and had to start reinventing themselves, relegated to stopgap duties, or settle into a backup role...or has established themselves as a quality starter. Wentz is still managing to walk that tightrope between the two. That takes talent, and luck.
