I don't know the specifics of the deal, but at face value, tax money should not be spent on stadiums unless they're getting that money back and then some.

The best part is theyre lowering the capacity, making it more inclusionary for the rich and less affordable for John Q. Taxpayer who actually foots the bill.

who's next in getting a new stadium? DC?

Apparently the Titans. The team owners have pledged 700 mil so far with a 500 mil bonds proposal from the state. The stadium NEEDS to be renovated bad but with the rising costs of materials and everything, it makes absolutely no sense to renovate when the the costs of a brand new stadium wouldn’t be that much more. Plus Nashville would like to hosts Super Bowls, Final Fours, etc.

Stuff like this is why I'm starting to feel alienated with pro sports.

With a 2026 completion date, I wonder if they are targeting some World Cup games.

No they already have designated sites for the World Cup they are  LA, NY, Dallas, DC, Miami, Orlando, KC, Denver, Houston, Baltimore, San fran, Seattle, Philly, Nashville, Cincy, Boston, and Atlanta. Not sure if they will have events at all those places but that is what has already been agreed on. As much as Buffalo having a new stadium they just dont have the appeal as other major cities with the infrastructure to hold the fans and the multiple teams playing there. Wouldnt be surprised if they switch out Cincy, Miami, or Orlando for Vegas. With it likely in the Summer time and neither Orlando or Miami having a dome, temps can be brutal for the players which can impact the outcome of the game. Got to assume that they will want to appeal to all of the visitors coming in to maximize their time here and put them in cities that continue to have a bunch of things going on in between the games.

You know how many articles that have come out over the past couple of weeks about this money is being taken from the area? whether its from the Seneca Tribe, the schools, the hospitals, etc its all nonsense and no one knows where it is coming from just yet. Its all guesses and political manipulation. Have you thought about the fact that NY just legalized sports betting? You know that there was more than 2.4 billion in wagers and 80 mil in tax revenue in the first 5 weeks, which was the NFL playoffs? Have you thought maybe that 80 mil is going to the 800 mil and that more is coming in from betting to pay that? That was just at the end of the season, imagine the full season that will likely make 100 mil in tax revenue, if thats the case then 8 years, 2030, the stadium will be paid for and that is where they continue to make money and will not have to touch other services such as your school, or hospitals that are being said. Think what you want by reading these articles but 99% of journalism is based off of a political agenda to cause hysteria over something good coming to the city such as having the local construction sites being the only ones allowed to bid on the projects, or the fact that it is keeping the employees staffed for 30 more years. Keeping the entertainment to a city who literally eats and breaths bills.

It's about principle. Not one cent of taxpayer money should be used on these private ventures when we still have to pay an exorbiant amount of money to watch a single game.

Plus cutting services for CHILDREN to do this is disgusting.

Its a public venture as the city will own the building and charge Pegula's rent. The fact is buffalo keeps the team there for 30 more years, local people get new jobs and those get to keep their current jobs. The fact you believe that its taking money from children is laughable and that is sheep mentality. You just assume what ever is plastered on the internet are facts, go to a town meeting or actually research where the funds are being allocated and you will see that all this info is fake news that you are reading. Its political jibber jabber for the sheep to pop their heads up and say its wrong to swing a vote without actually doing the research to know where the real funds are coming from.
