If his role is to play a similar role to that of MVS, I don't think the 15-yard average in out of the question. MVS was over 15 yards a catch in every season with the Packers and averaged 17.5 in his 4 seasons in GB, 20.9 in 2020.

Yeah, MVS didn't get many short throws.  Adams got LOTs of short throws.  It's possible that with Watson being quick and perhaps elusive, it's possible that MLF might give him some of those Adams quick throws.  Those might, hypothetically, be efficient, but if that's part of his usage it might make his ypc less than MVS.

That'd be nearly 15 YPC.  Of the WRs this past season with 1000+ yards receiving, only 6 (out of 26) had 15+ YPC.  That 40/500 is a more reasonable 12.5 YPC, which would account for 14 of the 26.  3 of those 12 were within a half a yard of hitting that 12.5 YPC mark.  There were only 14 WRs who averaged 15 YPC this past season, and only 5 of them had 65 or less targets.  That'd be a HUGE year if he came away with 40/600.

That would be exactly 15 YPC. :) Early on his role is going to be similar to MVS's role. MVS averaged 17.5 YPC. Watson averaged 20.4 YPC in college. Yes, he may get a few more bubble screens and such, so that's where I see him averaging around 15 YPC--rather than 17.5 YPC.

Well, the defense isn't going to allow any points, so other teams will be punting from their own ~40 a lot.

That and although we should have one or two pick 6s a game, there will be a few disappointing plays where the D takes away the ball in the red zone and does not advance it past the 20.

Christian Watson is 23 years old

He had a full redshirt 2017

He played college ball for a full 4 years after that at a highly respected program.

Waiting 3 years for the 34th pick is ridiculous.

It’s going to be a big disappointment if he can’t do what MVS did as a rookie

You guys set the bar awfully low for a guy who spent 5 years at a serious football program in college and is a 23 year old rookie.

Anything less than MVS rookie year is a huge disappointment, especially since this guy is supposed to be the only true #1 in the class.

On top of that, if he’s even decent he should be our #1 receiver.

I honestly think he’ll outperform MVS rookie year and we won’t have to be disappointed in the 23 year old, experienced player who grew up in a football family and has no excuse to be cruddy in year 1.

I literally have him beating out the back to back MVP. Maybe step your expectations. Idk

I've been pretty skeptical about the quality of our WR group.  But 2018 might make this group look like great by comparison.

  • Adams was good.
  • Cobb played part of the season, was broken-down when he did, and wasn't very good.
  • After Cobb, there was Allison; Kumerow; J'Mon Moore.  (6 starts included)
  • And EQ and MVS.  Of all people, EQ got 7 starts, and played 1/3 of the snaps!

MVS got 10 starts, 64% snaps, and 73 targets.  Watson might be much more advanced, but might still get half the opportunity.  The awful room gave MVS an unusual window of opportunity.
