If you never watched first hard knocks with Ravens following their SB year it was best one.  Goose was a big reason why.

I think they are on YouTube somewhere. Rookie talent show was classic.  Goose prank on Sharpe was hilarious.

Remember with all these deaths that none of us are promised tomorrow on Earth.  Make your choices accordingly.

I remember Goose espousing following philosophies on DL play (from memory and paraphrasing):

1) When you hit a QB always land with your weight on top of them.  (He is probably big reason for new rule against that).   He told a joke about that when QB was complaining about him flopping on QBs.  He said, "Look, I flop on my wife once a week and she weighs 120 lbs.  and she doesn't complain.   Stop crying."

2) If you aren't cheating you aren't trying.

3) When you are running and fall on opponents sideline start rolling.

He was also the best about grabbing and holding up OL so they couldn't get to LBs and let Ray Lewis do his thing.  He ate up two blockers a lot.   Football strategy is largely a numbers game in play design and whenever you can get a 2 for 1 on offense or defense it is a win.

The playoff passer ratings against that 2000 Ravens D"

  • Frerotte 44.3
  • Jackson 66.2
  • McNair 55.2
  • O'Donnell 118.7 ^  - he only threw one 19 yard pass
  • Gannon 22.0
  • Hoying 32.0  (after Goose erased Gannon)
  • Collins 7.1   -that's 7 point 1, not 71

They gave up 1 offensive TD in 4 playoff games.

You can't overstate how dominant they were and Adams and Goose were this immovable wall in the middle.

You could not even hope to block Lewis because they would not let you get to him.

Gannon got Goose pancaked or 'erased' as you couldn't see him under the big guy. lol As a Raiders fan RIP big guy. Condolences to his family and friends...WAY too young.

Came into the league at 286lbs and left at 340. You wonder if that is part of the reason why he passed, he never seemed to lose the weight

There is zero chance that his weight didnt contribute to his death.

People look at injuries and CTE as the big risks, but lots of these big guys are living unhealthy lives specifically to stay that big.

Its fine when you’re doing physical exercise every day and it’s a temporary size, but once you get out of the league it’s a death sentence if you don’t make changes
