Somebody on Reddit posted a video of a fan asking Mark Murphy when they’re going to trade for a receiver and Murphy responded by saying, “By Tuesday.”

Nope, not true. The fan asked IF we would be trading for a WR and MM responded with "Huh?" the guy then repeated himself and Murphy said "Oh! You'll know by Tuesday"

It was a very vague response that's being blown way out of proportion.

Here's the video:

I blame Rodgers, too.  Equally.  He easily could have said I'm outta here.

Question for you...concerning the front office.

Back in the day, we were drafting in 2018.  At #14.  Davenport on the board.  We traded with the Saints, right?  Got their first round pick in that draft, AND their pick in the 2019 first round.

Then Gute traded up to #18 for JA, right?

I mean, Gute isn't sitting on his hands on draft day.  And that was a great trade for GB.

I think we kind of forget the way that whole thing went down and simply say, he drafted JA.

Wait, what's the question?

Okay, NFL Cap math 101.  If you are a GM and you inherit Rodgers, Adams, Bakh and Clark you are inheriting great players....on second deals.  Or needing second deals.  Or third deals.  You've inherited the opportunity to spend more money on aging guys.

Gute brought in not one, but two EDGE guys.  And they were/are both very good.  Brought in a veteran OL who played well for us, (though I'd say, not great).  Brought in a very good safety.

New GM won a lot of games.  Hit on Gary, JA and Stokes in the first round.  Only Gary was a higher pick.  Found Jenkins who was a flat out stud until this year.  Found an All Pro ILB on the scrap heap.  Found a very good corner on the scrap heap.

I mean, I get wanting to be critical of the front office.  I really do.  But the only thing I can criticize them on is not addressing the WR room sooner.

Who is the really good center?  Myers is talented, but below average at this point in his career.

Stokes isn't a hit.  He might be, but certainly can't call him a success yet.

He found an ILB who was really good for 1 year, gave him a lot of money and isn't playing as well.

Amos is fine. Not sure who the veteran OL is that you are referring to - guessing Turner?  He was fine.

2022 draft is too soon to judge.

2021 draft - Early to judge, but Stokes and Myers have talent but are not plus players at this time.

2020 draft - Only real contributor is AJ Dillon.  DeGuara plays some and probably should get more time.  Runyon plays, but he is a player we should be working to put on the bench.  Overall very little contribution.

2019 draft - Gary and Jenkins are plus players.  Well Jenkins had been pre-injury.   Savage is a net negative.   They keep hoping he'll turn into something but he has been bad.

2018 draft - Jaire is obviously a plus player.   MVS was good for where he was selected.

This simply isn't enough contribution from the draft classes to elevate a team.   This is why the talent has fallen off.

This draft record is how teams become average to below average.

Then compare it to every other teams' draft class, weighted for total draft points, and tell me we're a bad drafting team.

You seem strangely pessimistic about literally every player. Runyan is a good-enough cheap starter that we can win with. Gary and Jaire are more than just "plus" players. Just two small examples of your clear bias.

Linsley.  The one that was so good you didn't need to draft a center for a long time.

Stokes was a huge plus last year.

You undervalue Runyan.

For where GB has been drafting, our front office has done a very good job.  One top 15 pick, right?  And that was Gary.  Wheeled and dealed for JA.

When you inherit a team like Gute did, it had established stars at premium positions.  QB.  RB.  WR.  LT.  DL.

We spent a lot of draft capital on CB.  And it's hit.  We've backfilled the guard position nicely.  They all can't be pre-injury Jenkins.  This is the year we went non-premium in round one, let's see how it shakes out.  Our premium pick isn't doing much.

Yah, that's what it comes down to me.  We don't have the total draft points.

But we forget that Gute got us 2 first round picks for one.  And it still led to JA.

He has had 1 selection in the top 15.  And he found Gary (despite my wishes).

And it is funny how people forget just how good and instrumental Stokes was last year.

Runyan, though.  He is a guy that is fine on a rookie deal.  You can win with him.  He's also one you do not overpay for on his second deal.  Which is why we drafted like we did this year.

The Eagles since 2019 (when Howie:

2018:

R2/49 Dallas Goedert - Good
R4/125 Avonte Maddox - Been a good nickel when he's healthy
R4/130 Josh Sweat - Has been good.
R6/206 Matt Pryor - On the Colts.
R7/233 Jordan Mailata - Starting LT.

4/5.

2019:

R1/22 Andre DIllard - Plagued by injuries and underperformance. Started 9 games total
R2/53 Miles Sanders - He's above average to good depending on the moment.
R2/57 JJ Arcega-Whiteside - Trade to Seattle, on their practice squad.
R4/138 Shareef Miller - Playing in the USFL
R5/167 Clayton Thornson - Playing in the USFL

So probably 1/5 here.

2020:

R1/21 Jalen Reagor - Traded to the Vikings.
R2/53 Jalen Hurts - A good dual threat QB.
R3/103 Davion Taylor - On the practice squad.
R4/127 K'Von Wallace - Special teams.
R4/145 Jack Driscoll - Backup/depth player.
R5/168 John Hightower - On the LAC practice squad.
R6/196 Shaun Bradley - Special teams.
R6/200 Quez Watkins - Was alright in 2021. Complete after thought this year.
R6/210 Prince Tega Wanogho - On the KC practice squad.
R7/233 Casey Toohill - On the Commanders.

So 4/10 on the roster overall, but Hurts is the only one doing meaningful things. Though drafting your franchise QB is always worth about a hajillion points.

2021
R1/10 DeVonta Smith - Strong rookie season, doing some good things in year 2, but being overshadowed by AJ Brown.
R2/37 Landon Dickerson - Has been entrenched as a starting guard since week 3 of '21.
R3/73 Milton Williams - Part of their DL rotation. Has been...average? Ish?
R4/123 Zech McPhearson - Also meh?
R5/150 Kenneth Gainwell - Existing on the roster.
R6/189 Marlon Tuipulotu - Also existing on the roster.
R6/191 Tarron Jackson - On the practice squad.
R6/224 JaCoby Stevens - Off the team.
R7/234 Patrick Johnson - Part of their DL rotation. Seems to be more of a body than anything.

Anywhere from 2/9 to 7/9 depending on how charitable you want to be. Still too soon to say.

2022
R1/13 Jordan Davis - Good run stuffer so far.
R2/51 Cam Jurgens - Waiting to replace Jason Kelce.
R3/83 Nakobe Dean - No meaningful role yet.
R6/181 Kyron Johnson - No meaningful role yet.
R6/198 Grant Calcaterra - No meaningful role yet.

Too soon to say.

So 6 of the 20 players drafted between '18 through '20 have really contributed. If you extend that to 2019, it could be 8 of 29 to 15 of 29 depending on how you define contributing and how forgiving you want to be considering the need for players to churn through the roster/special teams.

The guy that asked Mark Murphy that needs to be on medication if you read the rest of his tweets. Yamma hamma

His pinned tweet is one of the most humiliating sports-related things I’ve ever seen a grown *** man tweet

I would've done a team like the Chiefs. A team who picks in the high 30's like us. It's amazing the talent they found picking that late every round in the draft each year.

Buccaneers (2014 through 2020)

2014 (Licht's first year):

R1/7 Mike Evans - No comment needed
R2/38 Austin Sefarian-Jenkins - Out of the league by 2019. Released by TB in 2016
R3/69 Charles Sims - Flashed in 2015, but injuries derailed his career.
R5/143 Kadeem Edwards - Waived in 2015
R5/149 Kevin Pamphile - Started for two years but allowed to leave. Signed with TEN but injuries/ineffectiveness ended his career.
R6/185 Robert Herron - Waived in 2015

So 2/6

2015:

R1/1 Jameis Winston - Put up a lot of yardage numbers. Was also a human turnover.
R2/34 Donovan Smith - Hit
R2/61 Ali Marpet - Hit
R4/124 Kwon Alexander - Hit (left the team before the Brady era)
R5/162 Kenny Bell - Waived in '16
R6/184 Kaelin Clay - Waived in '15
R7/231 Joey Iosefa - Waived in '15

I don't know how to grade Winston. I'd say bust just because he was 1st overall and he was replaced by Brady. But he wasn't JaMarcus Russell/Ryan Leaf level of bust. So 3.5/7.

2016

R1/11 Vernon Hargreaves III - Started all 16 games his rookie year, but spiraled rapidly.
R2/39 Noah Spence - Never really did much, waived in '19.
R2/59 Robert Aguayo - He was a second round kicker. A KICKER. AND they waived him after one season.
R4/108 Ryan Smith - His true contribution was on special teams.
R5/148 Caleb Benenoch - Started all of '18, but was released in '19.
R6/183 Devante Bond - Never really did much, released in '19.
R6/197 Dan Vitale - Former Packer legend Dan Vitale.

They drafted a kicker in the second round.

-50/7

Okay, actually 0/7.

2017

R1/19 OJ Howard - If you'd like a prime example of never living up to potential, I present to you OJ Howard.
R2/50 Justin Evans - Started first two seasons, injuries derailed the rest of his time with the Bucs. Waived in late 2020 due to a failed physical.
R3/84 Chris Godwin - Hit
R3/107 Kendell Beckwith - Car accident in 2018 ended his career due to the injuries suffered in it.
R5/162 Jeremy McNichols - Waived in 2017.
R7/223 Steve Tu'ikolovatu - Two IR seasons. Waived in 2019.

1/6

2018

R1/12 Vita Vea - Hit
R2/38 Ronald Jones - Hit? Could be argued a push, but I'll give it to them.
R2/53 MJ Stewart - Waived in 2020
R2/63 Carlton Davis - Hit
R3/94 Alex Cappa - Hit
R4/117 Jordan Whitehead - Hit
R5/144 Justin Watson - Waived in '21. Currently existing on the KC roster.
R6/202 Jack Cichy - Injuries derailed his career, but he did get a ring from the Bucs and is now probably hoping he can keep his job once the Badgers evaluate their coaching staff.

5/8

2019

R1/5 Devin White - Hit
R2/39 Sean Murphy-Bunting - Hit
R3/94 Jamel Dean - Hit
R3/99 Mike Edwards - Hit
R4/107 Anthony Nelson - Contributed/filled in as needed.
R5/145 Matt Gay - Lost his job after a season.
R6/208 Scotty Miller - The Packer slayer.
R7/215 Terry Beckner - In the USFL

6/8

2020

R1/13 Tristan Wirfs - Hit
R2/45 Antoine Winfield Jr. - Hit
R3/76 Ke'Shawn Vaughn - He's still on the roster, but he's buried.
R5/161 Tyler Johnson - On the practice squad.
R6/194 Khalil Davis - On the practice squad.
R7/241 Chapelle Russell - On the Steelers practice squad.
R7/245 Raymond Calais - Currently a FA.

2/7

So Licht was 6.5/26 his first 4 years. And he drafted a kicker in the second round and somehow kept his job (the team was also 22-42 during this time).

He was 13/23 the three years leading up to the Super Bowl.

19.5/49 overall.

*edit* Licht really has led a charmed life, he survived three head coaches before the Super Bowl (Lovie, Koetter, Arians).

So drafting early is painful for fans to endure but can help your team improve dramatically when you hit on early picks?

(and a HOF QB falling into your lap)

Obviously they won't be gone but that doesn't mean they don't deserve to be. I wouldn't fire Matt but the 2020 draft is an all time horrible draft for a team a player or two away from a Superbowl and when you add it to his plan going into this year he should certainly be on the hot seat.

You are absolutely right...but I have to say that much of Gutey's 2018 draft stunk up the joint too.

I'll look at KC based solely on Reid's tenure, split between the two GMs.

2013

R1/1 Eric Fisher - Hit
R3/63 Travis Kelce - Hit
R3/96 Knile Davis - Didn't really do much at all. Was traded to GB in '16 where he did nothing in his two games.
R4/99 Nico Johnson - Practice squad, did nothing.
R5/134 Sanders Commings - Never played, injuries.
R6/170 Eric Kush - Waived in 2015
R6/204 Braden Wilson - Waived in 2013
R7/207 Mike Catapano - Waived in 2015

2/8 (but man, they were hits)

2014

R1/23 Dee Ford - If you put Nick Perry and Dee Ford in a room together, could you tell the difference? Traded to 49ers in '19 for a second round pick. Only played in 18 games the remaining three seasons in SF.
R3/87 Phillip Gaines - Inconsistent and injured
R4/124 De'Anthony Thomas - Was a solid enough returner, but never emerged past that.
R5/163 Aaron Murray - He...existed on the roster? I guess?
R6/193 Zach Fulton - Started a majority of his time in KC. Hit.
R6/200 Laurent Duvernay-Tardif - Hit

2/6

2015

R1/18 Marcus Peters - On the one hand, he was a 2 time All Pro. On the other hand, his behavior saw him shipped off the team in 2018. Not really sure how to rank this.
R2/49 Mitch Morse - Consistent starter, but allowed to leave to Buffalo in 2019.
R3/76 Chris Conley - He was fine? Mid? Eh? Allowed to leave in 2019
R3/98 Steven Nelson - Started/played a lot. But didn't get a second contract.
R4/118 Ramik Wilson - There's a trend here with this class, where they played a bunch but were allowed to leave.
R5/172 DJ Alexander - Special team ace. Traded in '17.
R5/173 James O'Shaughnessy - Did nothing. Traded to NEP.
R6/217 Rakeem Nunez-Roches - Depth chart filler, didn't do that much.
R7/233 Da'Ron Brown - Practice squad occupant.

This is a really weird class, where the first 6 picks all contributed while they were in KC, but either played their way out of KC or were allowed to leave.

So somewhere between 3 to 6/9.

2016

R2/37 Chris Jones - Hit
R3/74 KeiVarae Russell - Waived in 2016.
R4/105 Parker Ehinger - Never really recovered from his injury. Bounced around the league.
R4/106 Eric Murray - Contributed as a backup/depth player, but was traded to the Browns in '19. Half credit?
R4/126 Demarcus Robinson - Never really did much.
R5/162 Kevin Hogan - Waived in 2016.
R5/165 Tyreek Hill - Hit.
R6/178 DJ White - Waived in 2017
R6/203 Dadi Nicolas - Injured at the end of his first season and didn't do much after.

2.5/9

The Pelosi era ends somewhere from 9.5 to 12.5 of 32.

2017

R1/10 Patrick Mahomes - Smash.
R2/59 Tanoh Kpassagnon - Never really put it together. Was allowed to walk and signed with the Saints.
R3/86 Kareem Hunt - Statistically strong first two years, but the assault video ended his time with KC.
R4/139 Jehu Chesson - Waived in '18
R5/183 Ukeme Eligwe - Waived in '18
R6/218 Leon McQuay III - Bounced around the PS/active roster.

1/6. But hitting on one of the best QBs in the game makes everything better

2018

R2/46 Breeland Speaks - Waived in 2020
R3/75 Derrick Nnadi - Hit
R3/100 Dorian O'Daniel - Never really developed, contributed some on ST.
R4/124 Armani Watts - Never really did much.
R6/196 Tremon Smith - Waived in 2019
R6/198 Kahlil McKenzie - Waived in 2019

1/6

2019

R2/56 Mecole Hardman - Still has not put it together.
R2/63 Juan Thornhill - Hit
R3/84 Khalen Saunders - Hasn't really done much, but is at least sticking on the roster?
R6/201 Rashad Fenton - Has been serviceable, which is good for a 6th.
R6/214 Darwin Thompson - Released in '21
R7/216 Nick Allegretti - Depth player/contributor. Hit.

3/6

So the drafts for Veach through the SB season was about 4/18.
