UPDATED.   GB got some nice results for playoff chances today.  Both Seattle and NYG losing helped the chances of making it.  Detroit winning now puts them in a position to make a run at the playoffs and that week 18 game could be for a playoff spot

here are the current standings with overall record, conference record and remaining schedules

  • As of now, GB is down to 2 spots with being eliminated from the division title and playoff birth
  • wild card options
    • NYG:  needs to lose 3 of 4 games (would finish at 8-8-1) and GB would need to win out to get to 9-8
    • SEA:  needs to lose 2 of 4 (would finish 9-8) and GB would need to win out to go 9-8)
      • tiebreaker would be common opponents
        • GB would get to 3-3 with winning out and.... would need 2 of the seattle losses to be NYJ and LAR for both teams to be 3-3
        • next tiebreaker goes to strength of victory... GB holds a nice edge currently, but how other teams do the rest of the year can change that
    • WAS: Needs to lose 3 of 4 (would finish 8-8-1) and GB would need to win out to go 9-8

Its not win out or no playoffs, but it's not far away either.  Regardless, GB needs multiple teams to lose 2-3+ games to close out the season

We're gonna see another example of Rodgers Law in effect: the most heartbreaking end to the season is the likely end to the season.

We're gonna win the next 3 with Rodgers playing every game and get into the week 18 SNF winner gets in scenario and Rodgers is going to play badly in a loss at Lambeau. We don't make the playoffs, we don't see Love, and we get a mediocre draft pick.

Not heartbreaking enough.  We'll beat Detroit to sneak into the 7 seed.  We'll all think we can make some noise as the defense has been much better and the offense is best in the league down the stretch.  We'll have multiple key guys back from injury, leaving us as one of the more healthy teams in the playoffs.

Then the 49ers will smoke us.

Seattle has a rough schedule with SF, @KC, NYJ, LAR.  Could easily see them losing 2 or even 3

WAS and NYG play each other, so 1 of them will get a L (or it ties!!!), WAS has @SF, CLE and DAL.
NYG has @MIN, IND and @PHI.  Hard to know how much PHI will have to play for in that week 18 game

6 WSH 7 - 5 - 1 4 - 4 - 1 NYG @SF CLE DA
7 NYG 7 - 5 - 1 3 - 5 - 1 @WSH @MIN IND @PHI
8 SEA 7 - 6 5 - 5 SF @KC NYJ LAR
9 DET 6 - 7 5 - 4 @NYJ @CAR CHI @GB

PHI knocking the NYG out of the playoffs allowing the Packers to sneak in as the highest seed? 2010 repeat!

If GB is able to win out, it would/could drop MIN to the 3 seed and SF to the 2 seed.    Imagine GB run defense trying to stop the SF rushing attack with CMC

We beat the Niners in the WC

We crumple Brady and Bucs in divisional

Then.

All we have to do is beat that hefty coach who we chased out of town to assuage Rodgers!

But we get destroyed and MM is shown on camera with a triumphant smirk 47 times.

And during the game we have to sit through multiple close-up shots of Rodgers butt as the camera crew struggles to get his thumb on the screen.  Gute however, is convinced that what Rodgers did with an injured thumb is the greatest feat of all-time.  He bumps Rodger's salary up 20%.

That's also not nearly heartbreaking enough. We've seen that play out before. It needs to be something new.

Have we lost on a game ending Stanford band/River City Relay type play before? I think that would be sufficiently absurd enough.

Or maybe a Mason Crosby game winning kick attempt comes up short and is returned for a 106 yard TD.

This has the same feal to it as the 2010 season we need the giants to lose to the eagles that year. D.Jackson return punt for td to win the game in the final seconds.

We gotta root for philly to not wrap up the 1 seed by the last week.

We know their history of tanking the last game
