Wrong consistency.  Flavor wise, yes it could work, but agave nectar with a thickener is actually the better substitute.  Golden syrup's thickness is really the key because what people end up doing is adding more corn syrup to try and get more stickiness and body to the pie filling and that's what ends up making it overly sweet.

He clearly gained possession of the ball before it touched the ground. The only thing to debate is if he lost control when the ball touched the ground. As I stated, he ball shifted a little bit, but you couldn't see it conclusively break free of his hand. It shouldn't have been overturned. It was a bad call.
