NFL announces scenarios for a neutral site AFC Championship

Am i missing something, or does all this neutral site argument really missing the point of a Bengals vs. Bills matchup in the playoffs, that would now be played in Buffalo, but could've been played in Cincinnati, if the Bengals would have beaten the Bills?

In that case that game should also been played at a neutral site, considering the fact, that the Championship Game might also be played at a neutral site. So if u try to prevent any homefield advantage as a result of the cancelled game, u should try to do it for all games (also Ravens vs. Bengals), instead of just the Championship Game. Ofc that could suck for multiple fanbases, but if u do something like that, it needs to be consistent.

This.  Or a coin flip, since Baltimore might be privy to it.  The whole idea that we couldn't be the 2 with an outside chance at the 1 is strange.

Should have just been a "no contest" and zero other considerations. Simple, efficient, as fair as you can possibly get.

As a Bengals fan yes it would guarantee the north, but it also locks them out of the 1 seed.  Give and take.

I’m going to have to argue that your scenario is less fair than what’s actually happening.

The coin flip only comes into play if the game not played could’ve affected the HFA. If Cincinnati wins this weekend, there will be no coin flip. It’s only if they lose and play the Ravens again because there could’ve been a chance the the Ravens could’ve won the division.

Where is the Bengals coin flip if KC loses this weekend?  They could have won the Buffalo game and earned the 1 seed in that scenario.

You can still be the 2. You can still host the Bills in the playoffs. If you play KC in the championship, you don’t have to go to Arrowhead. What is the big deal that Bengals fans feel so slighted?

The Bengals were gifted not having to play the toughest game on their schedule, and instead of possibly being a wild card are the 3 seed at lowest.

Also granted almost a full bye week in week 17.

The Bengals were winning and driving, at home, with a rocking home crowd.  They also haven't lost since October.  Assuming they just lose that game is just as ludicrous as assuming they would have win it, if not more so considering win probability was in their favor at the point when the game ended.

Still had to game prep, practice, warm up, prepare.  While not 4 quarters of contact, it was certainly not a bye week either.

I can’t keep possibly typing the same stuff over and over. I’ve answered this…… just scroll back some.

C’mon DUKE, when you start reaching for who played more home and away games you’re officially grasping at straws!!

Is it not true, does their schedule not have 2 less home games than road games now?  All sorts of coin flips and neutral site games being considered for various teams that weren't involved, and the Bengals seemingly only get considerations against them for doing the right thing in the moment.  NFL teams will remember that the next time there is an extraordinary situation.  I'm glad the Bengals handled it the way they did, even with the NFL trying to find ways to punish them for it, because it was still the right thing to do.

Week 17 was in no way, shape, or form a bye week for either the Bengals or the Bills. What an egregious comment

It's just an idiotic statement that shows anyone who makes it has no idea the kind of preparation that goes into an NFL game.

Not only that, but the mental aspect of witnessing what they did in person on the field of play. Incredible that someone could consider that a mini bye of sorts

You lost 1 home game.

We lost won road game.

This is the only game that wasn’t played.

This IMO, is likely the scenario that the NFL really wants. Dream marketing scenario for them...it seems that's what they have wanted all along with either the Bengals or Bills....now just 10x the marketing and storyline possibilities.

The Bengals played 7 home games (or will once they play Baltimore, they have only played 6 so far)

Every other team in the NFL has played at least 8 home games (including Buffalo once they play NE this week), with half of them playing 9.

What is that if not a competitive disadvantage?
