Today is the big fish interview day with Flores. Let's all send positive vibes towards Eagan, today.

other than, if he is hired and does create a significant improvement, do we just lose him the next year to a HC position on another team?

or is that not such a bad thing, given the supposed improvement?

In reality your goal as a HC and GM should be have all your coaches work Into HC, OC, or DC jobs and always be searching for new ones. it means you’re winning.

it's certainly good feedback on your decision making in hiring, but can't be good for team continuity.

To a point. But, continuity is one of the most important aspects of long term success.

It’s one thing to have a strong pool of young position coaches that you can pull from to replace one who’s just left. It’s another thing when you have to consistently look outside of the organization to find a replacement.

Hiring Flores could be a great move, but if that’s the move, there also needs to be a plan in place if he leaves after one year. Because if you don’t have a plan in place to continue the work he’ll put in, then you’re starting over, again. And that leads to spinning in the sand.

Absolutely not.  We saw that with the offense for the last 5 years with the lack of continuity.  It's something that this will be the first time in Kirk's career to ever have the same OC for more than 1 year since he's been here, and the first time since McVay from 2014-16.

Well, if he brings Boyer with him, that'd certainly be an option (of course that would depend on whether he'd take him with him as a DC to his new place)...it didn't work out in Miami after Flores left (injuries may have played a factor), but a second shot might turn out better.

Possibly. And if Flores is the hire, I do expect Boyer to comes here as well.

I imagine one of things they'll talk about today is a succession plan. No one is dumb (especially Kwesi), they all know Flores is probably a short term play.

will Kwesi try to "sell" the job as show the NFL world how well you can improve us from 31st and you'll be a HC next year....?

That's probably one of the angles. Another is that it's a possible clean slate in terms of players where Flores will have ample input on defensive roster construction this offseason. Flores will probably have free reign on how he wants to mold the defense in his image, it'll be his baby. Also, the org is 1st class, the culture has dramatically shifted this year. It seems like something people want to be a part of now.

This was sort of more a broad statement, not as much of just Flores. It would really be the next coach. If you had Flores for a year or two, and you can in house promote the next DC, and keep that continuing.

You’re likely not going to just pump out new ones every year. That just doesn’t happen.

I’m more or less talking about what some of the better head coaches in the league have done. Reid, McVay, Billichick. In reality you should even go back to Holmgren and Gruden.
