@PARROTHEAD So you too aren’t giving Rivera a chance either? He was one of the most sought after head coaches after he was fired. The biggest reason he was fired was bc Cam Newton wasn’t healthy the last two seasons and a lot of injuries to their defense the last two years and, they new owner wanted his own guy. If people are truly being honest, they’d know that and acknowledge that.

Look at the differences.

For the office, business side President. He went after a shark.

For the football side. He got a guy that was just fired. Had 3 winning seasons in 9 years. He did not go after a shark. Dan didnt go fling 15 mil at Dabo or the likes. He went for a retread that was just fired. The safe, cheaper pick.

While I love Collins - always have - and respect/have acknowledged what he is, @naptownskinsfan & @PARROTHEAD aren’t wrong about Collins. He’s a box safety who’s an elite run defender/tackler but it’s true he’s only average in coverage.

We had to over pay to get him. We also had no shot, ZERO shot at landing a guy like Tyrann Matthieu bc he wanted to go to a team w/ an elite QB that had a chance to win a Super Bowl. He obviously made the right choice, Matthieu got his Super Bowl with the Chiefs.

Yeah. 20 years ago Collins would have been an All Pro. 80s-90s hed be mentioned up there with Ronnie Lott. But todays game. Spread out and fling it style has shuffled him on back in the pecking order.

Saying he had 3 winning seasons in 9 seasons while accurate in raw numbers looks better when you analyze those seasons.

They went to the playoffs 4 times in 9 years , Washington has only been 4 times in 15 years.

Rivera went 15-1 and had a Super Bowl appearance.

Again, look at the injury list the last two years. Look at the decisions Gettleman made in not keeping the 2015 secondary in tact, letting Norwell walk Gettleman let Rivera’s best DB & best OL walk in back to back off seasons.

Look at the development Rivera and his coaching staff did of Cam, Kuechly, Charles Johnson, Norman, Norwell, Bradberry, Kenwan Short (Best DL also lost for the year last year) Star Lotuleilei, AJ Klein, Curtis Samuel, multiple OL who weren’t high draft picks.

Also, don’t ignore Joe Gibbs’s influence and knowing a man that could fix the culture for Dan. This franchise needed a Leader of young men and a coach like Rivera, someone with high character and proven character after having Vinny & Brice run the football side for most of the last 20 years save a handful of years. Rivera was the perfect guy for this offseaon for this franchise. He’s proven that through this very challenging offseason.

Again, not his game. Collins is like Laron Landry, a box safety - even 20 years ago he still doesn’t have Ronnie Lott type ability. Lott was a converted corner, Lott was Sean Taylor before Sean Taylor.

Ive said all offseason the best move for Collins would be to move him to WLB since we are moving back to the 4-3 and sign Eric Reid or another SS that can still play the run well but is an upgrade in coverage.

Washington should’ve done the same w/ Landry and drafted/signed another SS in 2008 tbh. He would’ve been amazing as a WLB with his amazing range, blitzing ability and nose for the ball in the run game.
