$52M in the first year makes it sound extremely front loaded. Could they go QB at 5?

He gets his signing bonus up front, but it will prorate over the 3 years, very rare to see a front loaded deal these days. Probably a signing bonus and another roster bonus that's due next offseason before the league year.

This isn’t going to end well. I don’t believe for a second that all of a sudden after like 10 years of being a jag that he’s anything more than a 1 year wonder.

It really doesn't matter. This would have been a big contract.... 6 years ago. Now it's a mid range contract. The reality is that Seattle probably can get out of it after two years. So if it doesn't work out next year, they are still a building team, can make a run at a QB and have Geno start for part of a season until the new QB is ready.

The only way this really doesn't work out is if Geno absolutely craters next year. And even then, they don't really have better options at QB and it really doesn't change the exit plan strategy.

It's low risk.

The Raiders front loaded Carr's extension last offseason in terms of GTD money, that's how we were able to cut him.

His deal will be like the 15th/16th largest in terms of APY once all of the young guys get extended.
