DawgX
Nice get for them depending on the money. Love Cincinnati losing all these players.
wackywabbit
Another not insignificant loss for the Bengals. He's a pretty solid starter. Probably underrated for not being as good as his draft slot and who he was taken over, but he's a nice player to have. Good TE draft though to replenish. ACO
Bengals drafting younger and better anyways. No loss to them but decent pick up for the Panthers. A security blanket for their QB.
INbengalfan
sad to see him go, but no way we were giving him three years. Rival fans may want to remember all these players leaving when the team re-signs Joe, tee and JaMarr. Definitely going TE early in the draft now. It’s not as bad as you might think. The only real loss has been Vonn Bell. Bates was always a goner after drafting Daxton Hill, Perine is meh and not a great fit for how our offense has evolved, and Hurst, while solid, is easily replaceable. Losing Bell is tough because losing two starting safeties is a tough pill to swallow. The Bengals have an excellent FA track record in recent years - Bell, Hurst, and Perine are guys we brought in very cheap in the third, fourth, even fifth waves of FA. We’ve yet to make additions to replace these guys, but we will, and I trust in Duke Tobin and co to make the correct decisions to find the right guys the coming weeks.
sparky151
Yeah, Hurst is much more replaceable than Bell. I don't know why the Bengals wouldn't give Hurst a 3 year deal. They've signed plenty of other players in recent years to similar deals. Hurst was here last year on a one year prove-it deal. He proved it and the team should have kept him, unless the Panthers are giving him big money. Bengals can replace him with an Austin Hooper type or draft someone. I'd prefer signing a vet so the draft is less about need. Local guy Mike Mayer would look good in stripes though.

Plus he pronounces it “Pee-rine” and that’s unacceptable.

We haven’t seen the numbers yet, but I don’t blame the Bengals for not wanting to pay our 4th receiving option on the offence a mid-level contract, especially considering the depth of the position in the draft. Sign a cheap vet and draft one or two TEs in a strong class.
