We now enter this next year with our 2 starting first round pick d ends in contract years. What happens if they both ball out? Who do you pay? You going to pay 1 and let the other walk? You gonna pay one and franchise the other and hope that someone trades with you then? When you all of a sudden have absolutely 0 leverage because everyone knows you can't pay that much money to all 4 of your dlinemen? Plus, say Chase balls out. He would've made 17 million next year, he'll have to get paid over 20 to keep around. Real genius. Not just out two first round DEs becoming free agents. Every single one of our defensive ends will be free agents heading into next off-season. Cheering this on as a good move is as dumb as cheering on "making Payne earn it" when they could've saved a ton of money on his deal. Or waiting until other receivers signed to pay McLaurin and costing yourselves millions in cap space. How any fan can watch the moves made by this front office and continue to excuse them is beyond me?
ripsean21
I believe if we’re not in the playoff hunt a week before the trade deadline one of them is probably gone. Realistically I think the franchise tag is 3 more million then the 5th year option so they can still do that. That said we aren’t behind closed doors. And let’s be brutally honest. Chase young’s College tape and impact was up there with the Bosa’s. Yes injuries happen but the Bosa’s also haven’t had John Allen and Darron Payne and Tez lining up with them. This guy should be out here looking like a young LT or atleast looking like a top 5 defender in the NFL just souly off his god given ability if he was watching any tape and refining his moves from week too week on opponents. So we aren’t behind those doors but to be real the results aren’t there. I still 100 out of a 100 take Chase or Joe with that pick. But he can’t get passes or paid of potential when he’s been out 4th best DL player outside of a about 10 games his rookie year.

How any fan can watch the moves made by this front office and continue to excuse them is beyond me? Why would these players have wanted to resign here for hometown discounts early though? As fans we can say that’s how you do things but these players aren’t fans and this organization until maybe Rob has been the model of disfunction. Players want to win you have to over pay for players to stay when you suck!!! You don’t get discounts when players play for teams trying to rebuild. Mike Evans didn’t give TB a discount when they sucked. No player takes less to stay with a team that doesn’t have a franchise QB or real SB aspirations so I just think pounding every handling of a player when we actually maximized production on the field from a player before being paid is a first for a long time because we haven’t even had breakout type seasons for most players the last 25 years

Ya this to me means they have no plans on giving Young an extension. Probably for behind the scenes reasons we aren't privy to.
RSkinGM
C Young is J Clowney 2 point 0. Generational-bad knee injury early in his career. ( against us ! ) First game I think . Never the same . C Young has had two serious knee procedures and the ACL reportedly more serious than most .. They are the ones with the med records. Might they know more than us ? Good move- if he turns out great- 2 Franchise Tags. Edited April 26, 2023 by RSkinGM

One of the things that frustrates me most about this regime is they won’t be decisive about anything. It’s always half-measures. If you don’t want Young, don’t think he’s going to come out and earn that extension, then just act on that. Trade him while you can still get something good for him. You can’t tell me there’s not some team out there that would still trade a high 2nd round pick for Chase F. Young.
