McCown should be the absolute last resort, hes 39, coming off season ending injury, and hes still Josh effing McCown. I hope we at least try for a second tier QB or cut Christian Hackenberg if they are so desperate to have McCown back. If we miss out on Cousins... odds are we bring back McCown and draft a QB at 6 it trade up for one. Hack isn’t getting cut. Petty will though I’d imagine. The issue is if we bring in a bigger name than mccown... they 1st off will require a bunch of money, which is pointless when all we really want is a vet presence for the rookie and Hack. No sense in paying a guy like Taylor 20mill when he’s not what we want as a starter. He’d be a bridge to the rookie. Waste of cap space to go get other needs. McCown is a willing teacher and sets the bar low enough for one of the young guys to pass him on the depth chart with hopes he is nothing but a third stringer. If we did, it would signal that we’re absolutely planning on drafting a QB. McCown has also said he’s fine with being a backup. Imo the rookie can either come in mid season or possibly win the job outright without much “controversy” in the QB room. McCown is known to be a great teammate. Cousins is going to set the market for QB's, so a guy like Rodgers can lose money if Cousins takes a lower $$ deal to play with a more ready team. Will that be a determining factor? I dont know how important that is to him. Some guys feel obligated to their fellow players and some not as much. The funny thing is its more selfless for him to take the Jets offer (more money) over the vikings (more ready to win a SB). Would you guys prefer a mercenary or a front runner?
