Right. But why even bother? Why lose a 6th round pick for someone who isn’t going to make a difference at all.

If he doesn't play then it stays a 6th round pick, it's just a pick swap.

If he does play, then it's worth the 6th for a 7th, as it would be better than our current backup (Sean Mannion) who legit might be the worst QB in the league

Chase Young to the 49ers? Man Bosa and Young at OSU was unreal, I can only imagine it in the pros

Won't matter if they can't figure out how to marry the pass rush and coverages together.

Pressures haven't been a problem, finishing has. Young isn't going to solve that if they are just giving up everything underneath anyway as an outlet.

Over Jaren Hall or Nick Mullens?  I don't think much of Dobbs, but there's likely a pretty fair difference.

For a 4-4 team that gets to play DEN, CHI, GB & LV for 4 more games, they make all those winnable, and with that D, it gives them a shot with ATL/MIN (and while they play DET 2x, one of them is week 18 - when DET could easily have the division locked up and nothing to play for).    The 7th place team in the NFC is going to be pretty average - let's give NFCE 2 teams.   SEA's upgraded (but man Geno's struggled mightily - but playing LAR/ARI more sure helps too).   But then the 7th spot is wide open.

For a 6th-7th swap, I can easily see why the Vikes did it.

If teams are willing to rent Johnson and then collect the possible 3rd round comp then they should give up a 3rd round pick.  The Steelers would have to try to sign him otherwise it does not make sense.

If you’re banking on getting that future comp pick, then that handcuffs you in FA.

Also, are we sure Johnson even nets a third? JC Jackson at 5 year, $82.5M only netted a fourth. The Saints lost Terron Armstead and Marcus Williams (while adding Marcus Maye and Andy Dalton) and only netted a 7th. The Rams lost three starters off their SB team (Von Miller, SJD, and Darious Williams) and only added Allen Robinson - they couldn’t net higher than 5th rounders.

I doubt Jaylon Johnson signs some record breaking deal that would net a future third round pick.

The Eagles and Niners are making big moves. Just shows you they actually take trying to win a Superbowl seriously unlike some team *cough* Dallas *cough* *cough*. Even the Seahawks got Williams.

The Niners got a steal in Young with giving up a comp 3rd round pick. Which is further more saying how WE value players in highly regards thinking OUR teams SHOULD get way more than they actually get.

The Niners have to win the Superbowl now. If they dont its on Kyle and the lack of having a superstar QB. It dont matter how great of a defense you have or skill position players on offense. You as a coach has to get it done and your QB has to get it done. You can only hide your QB for so much. Purdy has gotten figured out and now he has to pivot and adjust along with Kyle. So this feels like a two team race in the NFC in Philly and the Niners. Then I would say the Lions right behind them.

Sweat for a 2 and Young for a 3.

And Washington fans kept telling me they were getting much more value than that for either guy.

Sweat was for CHI's 2nd.  Not all picks are created equally.   A 35-40 pick is very different than 50-64 pick from a contender value wise.   WAS made a killing on that deal.

Young going for a late 3rd is mildly surprising - but apparently no team wants to extend him, so he's a pure rental.

Let’s not overrate Chase Young.

Dude’s got the physical prowess and the pedigree. He’s performing well this year. But before this he was an injury prone bust at DE. There’s a reason Washington declined his 5th year.

Still a good grab for the Niners, who seem to have no issues making guys become better edge rushers (interior though eh). They’re set to have a bunch of thirds next year so they could afford to burn one on an athletic rental that may net them a return in 2025. But it’s not like this is pushing them over the edge - SB or bust existed for them with or without Young.
