and Dobbs has only had one season where he's started more than 2 games in a row. 2023, for AZ and MINN

Likely a reason for that..... If we have to trust the Vikings coaches and seeing Hall, we have to trust the coaches that didn't play Dobbs when they weren't desperate....

The statistical output of a full season from Mullens looks better than what Josh Dobbs is likely to produce. Granted, Mullens also has over 650 pass attempts to go with 17 starts.

Regardless, you're probably not winning many games with either one starting for you.

Probably not...but, if you're looking for a guy who's more of a passer, that's Mullens.  If you like the QBs ability to run, that's Dobbs.  That's the clear difference between the 2.  Comparatively though, there isn't much else of a difference because they both turnover the ball quite a bit.

Mullens has basically a full season of starting under his belt and has 9 more INTs than Kirk had all of last year and 6 less TDs.

does it make any sense for us to trade for Justin Fields...?

Fields is in the final season of his $19 million rookie contract and if the Vikings trade for him, they will also acquire fifth-year team option to keep Fields salary-controlled through 2025. That gives Minnesota two years to develop Fields in head coach Kevin O’Connell’s system and avoid starting from scratch with a rookie.

Does it make any sense? No. Especially for a 1st round pick, as this article preposterously suggests.

what's a price where it does make sense for us, that the Bears could possibly accept? would other players and picks have to be involved?

and first of all, is he salvageable?

Frankly, he's not worth more than a 4th round pick, which is what San Francisco got for Trey Lance.

Whether or not he's salvageable or not is the biggest question. Salvageable into being a capable starting QB? Probably. Especially with a coach like O'Connell, who does a tremendous job at scheming receivers open. Salvageable into a franchise QB who can elevate a team to the next level, and even carry the team if need be? Probably not.

Would it fun to take the Bears' organizational failure in developing Justin Fields and turning him into a legit starting QB? Absolutely!

Is there any history of a former FRP QB being dealt to a divisional rival?  I can't imagine that Chicago would even entertain the idea of trading Fields to any NFCN team unless that team was offering substantially more than every other team.

I think Fields is clearly worth more than a 4th round pick.  Trey Lance had 102 career passes completing 55% of his passes with a 1.67 TD/INT ratio.  And he added on average 29.4 yards per game on the ground.  Justin Fields in 810 career passing attempts is completing 61% of his passes with a 1.33 TD/INT ratio.  And he adds an additional 56.1 yards per game on the ground.  And unlike Trey Lance, Fields has actually shown some progression.  He's got a LOT to clean up, but Fields has shown more than Lance did.  I think a SRP plus a conditional '25 pick (anywhere between a 1st and 4th, with most likely a 2nd or 3rd) OR a 3rd round pick plus a conditional '25 pick (1st through 3rd, most likely a 2nd) seems reasonable.

Kevin O’Connell can probably be chided for not starting Nick Mullens in the first place, but his decision to bench Joshua Dobbs with the game on the line was phenomenal, and he won the Vikings their seventh game of the season. Indeed, he likely should’ve started Mullens to begin with, but tip of the cap for pulling the plug just in time.

It’s okay to remember Dobbs favorably for his performances against the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints a month ago — while hoping he never starts for the Vikings again. Often, career-long backups spring up and dazzle for a game or two before plummeting back to earth. That’s what happened with Dobbs. Plain and simple. It happens all the time.

The Ancients remember Scott Mitchell having a few good games as a replacement backup for the Dolphins so then getting snatched up to be Detroit's starter, and crashing back to earth. more recently, we saw Brock Osweiler do the same.

Meh, Lance is an unknown who didn’t get much of an opportunity because getting hurt and then having Purdy emerge out of nowhere. Fields is a known mediocrity. They aren’t comparable situations to me.
