The Broncos are strongly considering to sit Russell Wilson for the final 2 games

I have to imagine the trey lance trade up has to be close

This thread doesn't need to turn in to a trey lance one, but there is a ton of context behind what went wrong with him. Dude still has not gotten a chance to really play

Oh I'm sure there are plenty of mitigating factors. None of which really change the the fact that they traded 3 first round picks for 8 games of unproductive football out of lance.  It's probably made that much worse by the fact that the pick they traded away was used to select Micah Parsons, one of the most dominant players in the NFL.

The fact that the 49ers have managed to work around such a colossal waste of resources is all the more impressive

This is so stupid. Nothing you do at 36 years old in professional sports should impact your 'legacy' or diminish what you were able to do in your prime for 10 years. Also, somebody remind Damien Woody that Russell Wilson has nearly the same stats as Patrick Mahomes does this year. Losing games earlier in the season to bad teams because the defense was historically incompetent is the reason they are not sitting at 9-10 wins right now

Bah!

It can influence for example on the good side, what Kurt Warner did with the Arizona Cardinals greatly helped Warner to make the HOF.When you are borderline HOF like Wilson was and you change teams and you are a major disappointment it can influence in the bad side too, fair or not

I don't think this is making the point that you're thinking it's making...

  1. Russell Wilson's stats are a great example of why looking at TD:INT ratio alone is probably the absolute worst way to judge if a QB is playing good.
  2. Patrick Mahomes has been bad for nearly the entire season. But, beyond him being bad, he's got historically bad WR's and Travis Kelce has seemingly fallen off a cliff this year.

Im not saying he is fantastic, Im just pushing back against this narrative that he has been garbage because some people are talking like he has been a bottom tier QB this season and 'this effects his legacy in the HOF' derp.

Obviously he has his flaws at his age now and he's been sporadic at times this year but he has been rock solid overall. I will also maintain the fact that if the defense wasn't so atrocious early in the season getting steamrolled by the Jets and Commanders; or if Payton didn't **** the bed play calling the Pats and Texans games late, the Broncos would be sitting firmly atop of the AFCW with double digit wins and none of this would be happening.

Bus alas, somebody has to pay the price and that person is the QB. Its the right decision for the long term and its best to rip the bandaid off, but some trying to make Russ the scapegoat in this for a team who has more than enough blame to go around doesn't sit well with me.

Russ was a borderline guy anyways who probably wasn't going to get in and Denver was supposed to be his big rennaissance where he was on a talented team and could compete for rings again. Crashing and burning there probably did shut the door on any HOF discussions for him because now he looks like a guy who

1. Could only win with the LOB being the focal point of the team

2. Was heavily reliant on Pete Carroll's system to cover for how flawed he was as a player that revealed itself when he was asked to run a more traditional offense.

So yeah in this case, it did probably dramatically impact how he is perceived.

Patrick Mahomes is a HOF'er because of things he did in every season of his career but this one. Russ had questions to answer that Mahomes doesn't anymore because of how high his highs have been. A guy who has never had an MVP vote, only has a single 2nd team All Pro, and has a 1 ring where he didn't even get the Super Bowl MVP and his defense was considered the driving force of that run probably was going to struggle to get in when his HOF peers during most of his run were just of a higher level.

I dont think the HOF committee is going to do revisionist history and discredit his entire career because he had 1 horrible season at 35-36 years old under under a 1st time HC who we now know after watching him with the Jets is horrible at his job unless Aaron Rodgers is the QB. What he accomplished is what he accomplished for 90% of his playing career. That stuff just doesnt magically go away because hes a lesser player at a older age than he was in his physical prime.

If Tom Brady was asked to run RPO triple option offense for 2 years at 35 years old and got destroyed doing it, would you hold it against the rest of his career? Using what system he excels in because of his strengths as a QB as a knock against him and not the coaches who asked him to do things he doesn't do well is... silly business.

There are 10 QBs in the history of the league who have thrown for 40+ TDs in a season, he is one of them. He has a ring, been to multiple SBs, multiple 4k yard passing seasons, the 3rd most rushing yards for a QB in NFL history and hes arguably the greatest dual threat QB in league history pending Lamar Jackson ever learning how to throw a football at the NFL level consistently. Thats a whole lotta covering up flaws by old Pete if Russ has just been a average QB in disguise this entire time.

At the end of the day, I think it has a lot more to do with people being prisoners of the moment and some still using their own disdain for Russ as a person to discredit him because its a current hot topic. Thats all it is.

It's not about revision. It's about him being largely borderline anyways where how he finishes was going to tip the scales one way or the other. He's still a guy where his ring is largely credited to a historic defensive unit and not him, he didn't get SB MVP for that ring, he never had a 1st team all pro or was considered the best QB in the league, at the easiest position to be MVP he never got a vote, his team's success went down hill once he became "the guy" on the team.

He's flaws were always there. Pretty much any Seahawks fan or Broncos fan was screaming them the last several years. Fans just didn't want to believe them.

He's probably just not getting in

Broncos Bronco-ing.

Not sure what your point is here, but Raider nation calling out the Broncos for questionable moves is a joke. Sure the RW trade was terrible, one of the worst (along with that contract extension), but RW has not performed in years. He made millions. The team owes him nothing more. The entire trade is bringing down the franchises ability to be competitive and RW only cares about RW. Boo-hoo…take your money and go play for Atlanta. Prior to RW we had two storied trades for some of the best QB’s to ever play the game. This is a blemish.
