Anchorage Aliens

Offseason needs : WR, G, LB, EDGE

Cap space remaining: $13,648

Roster spots remaining: 22

What they did so far:

1.    Shake up the WR room

After trading away Chase and even Jamo, Anchorage really needed to give Burrow some weapons. Drafting Nabers, Rome and Bowers definitely did the trick and Anchorage now has 5 weapons they can feel excited about for the upcoming season in the three rookies, Njoku and JSN.

2.    Beef up the OL

Anchorage OL was in major flux coming into the offseason. 3upping Andrew Thomas was the obvious first move but adding competition for Spencer Brown at RT in Amarius Mims and trading for Wyatt Teller really offers a strong starting unit for Anchorage. Graham Barton is a nice depth piece given his versatility as well.

3.    Secure Burrow

This one was obvious of course, but it must be noted.

4.    Make a luxury trade for Sauce

While most would be very content with a CB trio of Derek Stingley, Patrick Surtain and Christian Gonzalez with Adebo on the bench, Scoundrel decided it was worth it to trade for Sauce Gardner. I don't know if it was necessary to spend big assets given the lack of need at the top of the CB depth chart, but it certainly gives Anchorage quality options from 1 to 5 at CB

What remains to be done:

1.    Improve at LB

Anchorage is pretty stacked and they don't have a ton of needs. I do think however LB is a decent hole on their roster currently, especially since opposing teams are likely to target them there instead of outside given the strength of that CB room. JOK is great, but Micah isn't a LB and I don't love David Long as a BDL starter - apparently Miami doesn't either given they went after Jordyn Brooks this offseason. Anchorage doesn't have the cap space to sign the top of the LB class, but they can certainly give a 3K multiyear deal to someone they like there.

FA fit: Patrick Queen

2.    Find a 3rd edge

Edge was probably Anchorage strongest unit last year. But after losing Sam Hubbard, Alex Highsmith, Malcolm Koonce and Haason Reddick, they are kind of limited past their (strong) starting duo of Parsons and Hutchinson. Maybe Leonard Floyd can fill that role (hint: I don't think so) but Anchorage would be best served to get some help there - maybe more so in Shark Tank than in Free Agency.

FA fit: Samson Ebukam (in Shark Tank)

3.    Continue building depth

The consequence of Scoundrel draft and trade mastery over the years is they're now allocating a lot of money to big time players and the roster is pretty thin at several positions on offense (RB, WR, G). With roster spots and decent cap space, they should have an opportunity to do that in Shark Tank. The most critical position probably is RB where they rely on young players with competition in their IRL teams to back up Breece Hall.

FA fit: James Conner (in Shark Tank)

Final assessment:

Anchorage is stacked and is probably in the top tier of title contenders with Berlin and Cancun. They are, however, fairly limited by their contract structure and need to build up depth at several positions as injuries or bad performance of one player at several positions would put their title hopes at risk. While I don't expect Scoundrel to get deep into this FA pool - except possibly at LB - Shark Tank could be a sneaky make-or-break week for the Aliens

No reason for Ted to do his own preview and I need something to get me back into a BDL mindset, so let's go

Quebec Nordiques

Offseason needs : RB, C, EDGE, INT, LB, CB (x2), S, OT, G

Cap space remaining: $59,481 (accounting for latest moves out of France)

Roster spots remaining: 18

What they did so far:

1.    Extend Tua without committing

After trading for what would become their Bizz Bowl winning QB thanks to an awesome trade partner that I'd personally recommend, Ted secured a 5th year extension early and didn't have to figure out whether Tua was worth a 3up yet - though this decision will have to come eventually.

2.    Replace bigger contracts by younger players

Quebec lost, via trade or retirement, 3 major pieces of its championship team in Aaron Donald, Lane Johnson and Quenton Nelson. This money quickly got allocated to the new defensive cornerstones of the franchise: Josh Allen, Montez Sweat and L'Jarius Sneed

3.    Get younger

After two drafts without a ton of contributors for various reasons, Quebec needed to add rookie deals and they did so via the draft and PFA by adding 12 players. Given the amount of PFAs and low round picks in that group, it remains to be seen how much those guys contribute, but Ted can hope to get some cheap and young contributors out of those guys

4.    Reinforce the DL for some reason

At a position which was already a strength, Quebec decided to spend additional ressources at EDGE by trading for Haason Reddick and Darius Robinson. While the latter can play inside, it's unclear how much Reddick actually helps that EDGE rotation. But he can maybe be a trade asset for in season action.

What remains to be done:

1.    Find a RB

Ted is in a situation he seems to know very well - deprived of a long term plan at RB. Fortunately the RB FA class if fairly strong and Quebec might find someone to replace Ekeler for the BDL champions

FA fit: Jonathan Taylor

2.    Replace Aaron Donald

While Donald individual contributions are going to be extremely hard to replace, Quebec is likely to target someone to help Osa Odighizuwa put pressure from the DT spot.

FA fit: Javon Hargrave

3.    Beef up the OL

What was a strength of Camden last year is now an uncertainty for Quebec. Lane Johnson and Quenton Nelson were certainly valuable and a line of Dawkins-Jenkins-Bozeman-Meinerz-Tom is unproven at best. Quebec will likely look to add several players; in a FA and Shark Tank, to beef up that OL.

FA fit: Mike Onwenu

4.    Add competition outside

While Quebec has startable trios at WR and CB, their third player - Shaheed and Saint-Juste respectively - can certainly be improved upon. If Quebec can find cheap players to add the mix they likely will, otherwise they might wait for Shark Tank

FA fit: Tre Hawkins III

Final assessment:

Quebec doesn't seem anywhere ready to repeat last year performance. Despite Aaron Donald unplanned retirement, the front 4 is still extremely solid, but the rest of the team needs reinforcements. They won't be able to fix every hole in FA so Quebec will have to count on some players, especially to step up this year.
