If that's the case then maybe just have him walk through the practices so he's still healthy for game day. They just need to verbally give him his game plan instructions and he should be able to do what he needs to do as per the defensive game plan that's implemented. No, because I was too young to remember those and I vividly remember in 1999 being 8 and asking my dad and grandpa how it was allowed for us to lose when one of your players fumbled, and then the same dumb team has ruined my adulthood playoff runs 4 times, so I'm going to need this one.
