I'd probably go Jennings just with the addition of his physicality, and YAC ability that pops up every once, and a while. As receivers, I think it's practically a wash. But I haven't seen Bourne play in a while.

I thought it was such an interesting question because I think Jennings is such a niche player. Like, he's really good at what he does, but he can't do much else. He's ostensibly a slimmed down TE2 lol. I don't think if Deebo or Aiyuk went down for a bit that you could play him as a WR2 even though technically he's probably the team's wr3.

Bourne just seems like a much better actual receiver. If I need him to cover that wr2 spot for 4 games, I think he could manage it. He also creates a lot of the same first down stuff as Jennings, though obviously isn't the same kind of blocker.

So it kind of seems like a situation where you're asking if you'd rather have the specialist, or a slightly superior jack of all trades who may give you a little more versatility

When and who did they interview? LOL

Have to think it’s an internal hire or they share the respective agent and kept everything hush…😬🤢 Staley?!

Staley and Kyle have the same agent or at least that’s what I heard.

Would love for it to be Bill but I think if it’s an outside DC hire we are going to lose a lot of coaches. Which makes me think it’s internal

Do you guys think that Jennings is better than Bourne? Saw some conversation on twitter.

I think it's Bourne > Jennings by probably a decent margin.

I think it really depends on the team and more importantly the OC/offensive playcaller. Bourne is a more well rounded receiver but Jennings is such a unique player that does a lot of the smaller things really well. For us i think Jennings is more important just like i would argue Deebo is more important than Aiyuk even though the latter is probably the better player and would be more important on most other teams.

Bullocks or Sorensen if in house.

Staley if not in house.

I really don’t see the appeal of Staley personally. I hope we don’t go that route. If we’re going to change our defensive scheme it had better be for someone like Bill.

Aww, we silly today. Now Deebo, however...

"It's been proven. Aiyuk & Deebo don't win against the elite corners 1v1...They can be elite WR's, but with the route-running part of it, particularly against press...The tape tells you they struggle against man teams"

🤨

Every play by play metric disagrees with this on Aiyuk, not just pff that has him with one of the highest grades against man lol.

We've been trying to get a decent receiving TE2 for years. Why don't we just use Jennings as TE2 and get a new 3rd receiver?

What makes you think that Jennings could block inline? He has played 6 inline snaps in 3 years

Also just the eye test, my dudes. A good half of our third downs this year felt like they were against man cover 1 hole variants and Jennings/Aiyuk were getting an out route

Sounds about right. Bourne seemed to drop a lot of easy balls, but for whatever reason would make up for it with some quality catches in crucial moments.

There is something else. Bourne is 29, and will be coming off an ACL injury. Remains to be seen how well he'll bounce back.

Wouldn't mind having "All he does is catch touchdowns" KB as a 49er again though.
