Think we included probably 1 extra pick but atleast glad that they are using it for a premium position for a top end talent. Was hoping for an IDL though

I preferred one as well, but we've heard before that Flores doesn't put as much value on IDLs in his defense...it's more about the Edges.

Dallas Turner could potentially be the best defensive player from this draft, that’s too good to pass up at pick #17. Also Byron Murphy just got taken at #16 and no other DL would be worth taking that high. Dallas Turner was mocked to go in the top 10 and be the first defensive player taken in the draft, so I was surprised that he fell a bit. I think that the Vikings were surprised as well that’s why we made that move. Even though DT was a bigger need than Edge, Turner is just too good to pass on, and you can never have too many Edge players. Amazing first round by Kwesi. Who would’ve thought that we’d get J.J. McCarthy AND Dallas Turner? Crazy

No idea how they stop the run.....

They wont have to worry about stopping the run because the offensive is gonna be putting up 30+ points a game, so just need to stop the pass. Much like the Manning era Colts. (SARCASM... mostly) ;)

I think your concern is legitimate, but I think they needed both IDL and Edge Rusher (particularly with the loss of Hunter) and Dallas Turner was such great value at that point they couldnt pass up the pass rush choice.

Seriously though, I do think there are some question marks surrounding the run stopping ability of the team and Flores has shown some struggles scheming against the run game. However I think both Kwesi and Flores have a mindset that run stuffing IDL arent as valuable as pass rushers and seem to have a sort of "money ball" mindset towards the big boys on the defensive line in terms of signing underrated free agents or drafting mid round guys to fill those spots. I dont know that I necessarily agree with that philosophy but I think it seems to be the approach we've seen from Kwesi (and perhaps the defensive coaching staff too).

Of course we'll never know if Byron Murphy had been available if he'd have been picked over Turner, but I still believe that taking Turner was absolutely a great choice given the value of the position and him sliding down far enough to be within reach of a trade up.

If he gives the Vikings a true pass rushing threat for the majority of his rookie contract it will be a huge addition that should allow for some flexibility to resigning Jefferson and Darrisaw.

I’d say the odds are against him. He’ll likely be a pass rush specialist this year.

Van Ginkel has always been the 3rd u I thought? Sort of like Wonnum.

I hope Patrick Jones still makes the team. He's been put on notice.
