Don't let people like Rapoport influence you away from logic. He's being dramatic because that's part of the job description these days. They're not going so far out of character with all the can kicking they've done so far, to allow for the possibility of Adams sitting out half the season or walking after a tag year. It's also benefits them cap wise to get an extension done which further cements it will get done. They're simply doing the dance they have to do because Adams too knows an extension helps their current cap. Start out low and work their way up. Ultimately their worst case Adams contract still benefits them. They just have to be under the cap tomorrow. A few small moves can get them compliant. They can clear more room to add useful pieces in the coming days and weeks. That said, an Alexander extension would be no surprise tomorrow.

Couldn’t if he wanted to… they could just tag him again.

The oddsmakers seem to side with everything is looking pretty good for the Packers.

BTW, their Super Bowl odds have been chopped in half since the Packers went to work in advance of the new league year this past week. Reality is squarely on the side of things are headed in the right direction after Rodgers committed and they did what they had to do with the cap.

It's the doom and gloom that's gone irrational around here.

Futures odds are based on public perception and really aren't reality either. Your comment was about them being a better team than the one they had in September and that is very wishful thinking on your part. They have lost/will lose several players that were high end talent last September and very few of those loses have equal talent to replace them. With limited resources in cap funds, they will be trying to plug holes with draft picks and castoffs and their depth will more than likely be a weakness in the long run. There is a great deal of work to do to sniff being as good as last September's roster was.

I kinda wish we'd traded him just for the fun of it, but I keep reading stuff like "We'll win the division but will never win a Super Bowl" and it doesn't add up. Football is random. Sometimes the best team wins, sometimes it's the best healthy team, sometimes it's a good team that caught a few lucky breaks. Getting to the playoffs and hosting a playoff game is about as good a guarantee as you can hope for.

Good point. But two tags wouldn't get them the desired cap relief so I can assure you they are against the tag route almost as much as Adams is. It will get done.

Oh I agree… it’s best for both. But just like Adams saying I can sit, GB can be like fine… we can just do this next year too.

Adams and GB don’t seem to be this petty. Rumor is GB has already offered a huge deal… seemingly the hold up is guarantee money past the first year and how everyone views DHop’s stupid contract.

Cobb would be back. He already knows he wont be back at his number. It's about being under that cap for the new league year. Once again, there are many conversations that happen that people either pretend don't happen, or can't imagine possibly happen. NFL negotiations are not like the Madden video games negotiations

Actually.....Cobb's gonna be cut.

The FO will mistake that they've received the signed contract copy already - faxed from AR's Agent....but he'd not sent it yet - the transmission got jammed - so thinking they have AR in the bag....they cut Cobb in retribution for the embarrassment of having to bring him on board last year.....only to incur the wrath of AR who now instructs his Agent not to send the fax!

Finally @Mr Anonymous gets his wish of FO malfeasance!

With AR not on the dotted line - his cap relief disappears - Davante refuses to play ball - Jaire gets the willies about all of it and takes a chill on his extension......

And just like that....with the clock ticking.......we sink into cap hell  :)

Extensions for Adams and Jaire better be less than 48 hrs away then.

We've upgraded no where, and we're worse at TE, WR, OT, EDGE and CB.

We’re not really worse at edge—since Big Z barely played last year. Same with CB, and Rasul may be back and Jaire may be healthy. There’s a lot of off-season to fix TE, WR, and OT. I expect significant draft capital to be spent on WR and OL (and EDGE).

This is the @Mr Anonymous theory that we're gonna be better this year than last.

That’s *assuming* everyone stays healthy. If the departures essentially mean you no longer have the depth to absorb injuries as successfully, your team is worse, in a sense...Even if the injury gods end up smiling on you for a change and not making you pay for it.

...this doesn't really support your point outside of the fact that public loves to bet on the Packers. From '2010 through 2018 they were, at worst, +1200. Even for the 2016 through 2018 seasons their odds sat were +800, +800, and +1200 preseason.
