Higher protein and fat is something I’d recommend, and just remember if you’re cutting, short of PED, you’re going to lose weight room gains, but that’s okay because lean is good. Just finished my cut a couple weeks ago. Hit the bike hard today after 4 lifts last week.

I'm definitely not strong enough, or have dialed in form right now, to be losing gains during my lifts (starting lowish to hit my forms and slowly adding each week). So I'm effectively cutting while dialing in my routine so that I'll be ready for higher volume and weight once I'm ready to start bulking, too.

I'm sure I could be adding more volume and more weight sooner if I was in a surplus, but I'd rather dial in form and routine while cutting. Seems more efficient to me.

I'm a hunter though, and it was surprising to me when I realized that a "serving" (for me) of venison is like 90g of protein. Made me realize I've been getting a schit ton of protein most of my life.

Chicken gets old after a while, so meats like venison, lamb (I love lamb), and honestly lean beef like sirloin are fantastic. I try to limit red meat due to heart health, but I’ve really upped my pork intake. Getting this smoker has been perfect for clean eating and taste. I got a 9 lb pork butt/shoulder for $11 yesterday. Can’t beat it.

I'm an avid fisherman, too, so I have freezers full of venison, white fish (pan fish, walleyes) and salmon. I actually don't like the taste of lamb. I eat a fair amount of chicken though. I avoid pork because I'm slightly weirded out eating smart animals. I love the taste of it though. If I go out to eat I'll usually opt for steak or a burger, but actually don't buy and cook too much beef, either.

I try to get my majority of meat from my own wild game or clean, pastured chicken.

Walleye is my favorite fish with perch a close second. I’m about to kill my own home grown Thanksgiving turkey here Saturday.

I'm doing carnivore right now and have a freezer chest full of organic grassfed beef, wildcaught salmon, and some pastured porkbelly. I've got the ground beef with 10% organ meats ground in for extra nutrients. OMAD

Today's lunch is 1 lb of 55% ground beef, half a can of cod liver, 6 hard boiled eggs, and a small section of grassfed butter.

I'd like to get a whole deer processed and try a lot of that meat. I've only had a few bites of deer jerky 15 years ago.

The tenderloins are outstanding, just don't overcook them or they'll be wasted. Ground deer in chili is awesome as well.

I was at the YMCA weightroom a few days ago and a guy was lifting with his teenage son. But the guy also had 2 very young daughters, probably 4 and 6 years old, and he just had them sitting on a workout bench in the middle of everything. It was a little awkward just to have them sitting there, occupying a bench, looking at everyone. It's a YMCA with a front desk area with couches, chairs and tables they could sit at.

Typically the Y offers free childcare. I'd love to know whether or not:

A: The father knew this

B: If the childcare unexpectedly fell through there at the Y due to staffing

As for the other one, zero percent chance I'm leaving my 4 and 6 year old out of my sight in that front area. They'll be with me as well. JMHO

That does suck, a little, but I wouldn't want my 4 and 6 year old girls out of my sight, or sectioned off from me through glass I have to run all the way around to get to them (If it is set up like my local Y) either.  If they have their daycare area open, I'm cool with that, but no way out by the front desk, on couches, that close to the entrance.

As the father of a girl younger than that, with another on the way, my heart rate went up just thinking about that.   If childcare isn't an option at that particular time, they're going to be right there with me, and I'd have to apologize for the inconvenience.

It was 9am on a Sunday. We have 24/7 access to the weightroom only with our electronic key.

The staff doesn't show up until noon on Sundays to open everything else up.

This an extremely unbusy Y on a Sunday morning.

I find myself getting at least one big pork loin every week for protein. Roughly the same profile for P/C/F as chicken but has more minerals, plus IMO slightly better vitamin/mineral account.

That being said the vitamin/minerals are kind of moot since I take multivitamins every day. But, I like the different flavors that you can make with either.

Several of my buddies use to give me deer meat since they were single and couldn't cook worth a damn. I'd cook up some and give them a bunch back and then keep my half or so. But no more, noooo.... My stupid friends had to have stupid families that like deer meat.

Honestly I wouldn't trade deer for cows, but venison steaks, deer jerky, and deer chili (looking DIRECTLY at you @ET80) and I'm in heaven for a week at least.

I'm hoping and you meant PORK loin there, but...

I should send you a recipe I did for it. It was wrapped in bacon (I did pepper bacon, delicious addition btw), I halved the loin and unfolded it (knife or meat tenderizer hammer works), then sauteed up some garlic, onions, and apples and stuffed it, wrapped the loin around it, then wrapped the loin in bacon, and smoked it. Super lean and healthy and super tasty. Even my kids loved it.

I'm dying lol 😂  Pork was the intended word. I fixed it.

Definitely take the recipe. PorK - especially bacon - with fruit has been paired better than I ever expected. Mango and cherries worked great and I still think it's wrong that it was so delicious. Didn't know about this until a few years ago, the first 30 years of my life was surprisingly unfulfilled.
