Yeah but if the top 5 QBs are gone by the time we pick, with Allen going to the Bills at 12, then who would the Chargers trade up for?

Why not just wait until the next best available qb that falls to them?

It's definitely not a given that the top 5 QBs are gone before our pick, especially if the Giants don't draft a QB.

For sure, I still think we need to be careful otherwise we are going to lose out on the 5 or so prospects we want at 13.

Remember, no one thought Allen would slide to us last year. Its not just QBs that teams may want to move up for.

Yeah, but if a team wants to move up for someone we want, why would we make that trade?

For example, Vita Vea, Edmunds, Denzel Ward, Roquan Smith or Minkah Fitzpatrick. I wouldn’t trade back and pass on those 5 players if they’re available at #13. I’d take one of them.

If you like a player who’s available, the smart thing to do is to take them.

I disagree.  Draft picks are lottery tickets, the more you have the more chances you have to hit big.

Not in the first round though. In the past we’ve traded down and passed on better prospects and we missed on better players. I don’t want us to make the same mistake again. Take the best player available unless there are like 5 guys who we have graded the same. If we have 5 guys we have graded the same and they’re all available when we are picking and we are staying in the teens then, I’d make the trade.

For example, I just did a new simulated mock draft which I posted in that thread and I traded down with the Ravens to 16 so they could move up and get Calvin Ridley. I did it because, Payne, Vea and Guice were all still available so I’d be assured I’d get one of them and I actually had my choice of all 3 at 16.

I took Da’Ron Payne at 16. And for trading down 3 spots in round 1 I got an extra 2nd and a 4th which I used on Josh Jackson, CB from Iowa in round 2 and Kyzir White, SS from WVU in round 4.

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 16 (BALT):  Payne, DaRon, DT, Alabama (A)
Round 2 Pick 12:  Chubb, Nick, RB, Georgia (B+)
Round 2 Pick 20 (BALT):  Jackson, Josh, CB, Iowa (A)
Round 4 Pick 9:  Cole, Mason, C/OT, Michigan (A+)
Round 4 Pick 18 (BALT):  White, Kyzir, SS, West Virginia (A)
Round 5 Pick 5:  Richardson, Will (OT) North Carolina State (A+)
Round 5 Pick 26:  Burnett, Deontay, WR, Southern California (A+)
Round 6 Pick 14:  Blanding, Quin, FS, Virginia (A+)
Round 7 Pick 13:  Wallace, Levi, CB, Alabama (A+)
Round 7 Pick 23:  Bellamy, Davin, OLB, Georgia (A+)

We could sign Johnny Football!!! Idk if he ever learns how to play within a NFL offense but I think the guy has learned his lesson I’d give him a low key deal

We have 3 QBs and none of them are trying to be the center of attention everywhere they go. Pass on Manziel

As well as another DT we can’t sign.

I really think they’ve already decided to draft Payne or Vea in round 1. I think the only way they’ll sign Hankins now is if they don’t get a NT in round 1 or 2. I’ll be shocked if they sign another player before the draft. They may sign a player or two after the draft if they think they still have holes and need a starter somewhere but I don’t see them signing a player before the draft.

If we move back in round 1, I think we have to stay in front of the Lions at 20. So, I could see moving back but not too far, and I’m also not sure why any of the teams in the late teens would give up a draft pick to move up to our spot. That’s the riddle I can’t solve and no one has given me an answer as to why any of those teams in the late teens would move up either.

16 ravens jump Arizona to take Ridley

17 chargers jump Arizona to take a QB

18 seahawks jump packers to take Ward

now if Ridley, Ward, a top 4 QB or possibly Jackson are there I could see those trades being a possibility to keep us in front of Detroit
