Hunter2_1 Posted January 25, 2018 Share Posted January 25, 2018 The general consensus seems to be; Originals - Awesome Prequels - God Awful Latest 3 - ....Meh. Okay-to-good. So, out of 9 movies, only 3 seem to be really good (general consensus, obviously there are people who will disagree). The ratings reflect this. However, Star Wars is renowned as an epic saga. Is it overrated? DISCLAIMER: I am specifically, and ONLY, referring to quality of the movies. The world and concept surrounding SW is simply amazing. Broncofan Posted January 25, 2018 Share Posted January 25, 2018 If you saw movies pre-SW you would understand why the series is held in such high regard. It literally changed the standard for watching movies. And not just on a linear scale but an exponential one. That certainly cant be overstated. If you are talking world building as a franchise, its hard to argue there is a more in depth universe in all of fiction than Star Wars. If you are talking about quality of movies, I dont think it has ever been regarded as the cream of the crop of cinema. It revolutionized the fantasy and sci-fi genre's and pushed it to main stream, that too cannot be argued. Being revolutionary does not make any lone movie a contender to the greatest feats of cinema as a whole. In short, no matter how you slice it, Star Wars as a whole is not over-rated.
