Do the Knicks have the cap room to absorb Parsons contract?

They could package some contracts together if they wanted, like Tim Hardaway Jr. + filler, granted swapping one terrible contract for a less terrible, but still terrible, contract seems rather counter productive, so I dunno why Memphis would do that.

Not without getting creative.

Knicks are currently $500k over the cap.  They can renounce the cap hold on Jarrett Jack for $1.5 mil in savings to be $1.0 mil under the cap.  Then they can stretch Noah's awful deal, which I think would give them around $11 mil in savings this year, so that's $12 mil in cap space.

Parsons costs $24.1 mil, so they still need $12.1 mil more.  However, the Knicks have a $8.567 mil trade exception which I think they could utilize here.  So they would just need $3.533 mil more.

So I think if the Knicks include one of the following players they could afford it after stretching Noah and renouncing Jack:

Lance Thomas ($7.1)

Ron Baker ($4.5)

Emmanuel Mudiay ($4.3)

Kyle O'Quinn ($4.25)

So if the Grizzlies take on one of those guys the deal should work.  I think.

edit - I forgot that the Knicks would have to pay the #4 pick, so the Grizz would likely have to take 2 of those.
