Is Jason Garrett the new Rasputin of coaches?

The coach that seemingly wins just enough games to stave off the hot seat longer than we thought.

Wayne Fontes famously did this with the Lions- winning what Chris Berman used to call 'Rasputin Games,'  ones where Fontes' Lions were at a crossroads and seemed to win more often than not to get traction and cool off his hot seat.

You could also make a case for Marvin Lewis as Rasputin, whom also has 3 8-8 seasons, but 2 of those were in 2003-2004, and those were on the heels of the Bengals being the NFL's butt of jokes. 8-8 in Cincinnati is different from 8-8 in Dallas IMHO.

Of course, Lewis has strung together 7 winning seasons to Garrett's 2 (Wayne Fontes had 4).

Yes, Marvin Lewis has 0 playoff wins- but Garrett/Fontes each have 1.

With that in mind, this Sunday's Jags/Cowboys game (and maybe Washington/Tennessee on deck) feel like Rsasputin Game for Garrett, the type of game you don't think the embattled coach can win, but does.

It'll be interesting to see how long he staves off the inevitable with the heat even higher after punting in a spot where most coaches don't punt last Sunday night.

Garrett should've been gone after 2013.  We've been running his vanilla, predictable offense since 2007.   Coach Vance Joseph said it best last year when facing Dallas  "They're easy to scout and hard to beat" .

It takes all kinds of pro-bowl caliber player performances to compete against half-way intelligent DCs.  That's why he'll get wins in the regular season but can't buy a win in the playoffs when decent DC's start to earn their money scheming for particular offenses.

Every year that we have Garrett as a coach, the talent of the team is wasted.  He wasted Romo and now he's wasting the O-line.  He's run out of coaches to throw under the bus (including Wade Phillips, who he undermined).  If Linehan goes, so should Garrett.  Heck, he stood on the table to get Linehan here as they share similar offensive philosophies, and were coaching buddies at Miami.  But in the end, Linehan was brought here just to run Garrett's offense.  The well got poisoned the day the Garrett family conned the Jones' into hiring an under-qualified QB coach as the OC.

lol...now that I think about it, Jason's dad, Jim (long time scout for the Cowboys) was responsible for Dallas bringing Jason in as a backup QB after he failed to stick anywhere.
