OFFENSE - 3WR/TE/RB - Single Back Set

Balanced 65:35 pass:run.  Feature Henry out of the backfield.  Wentz will take what the defense gives him, will look to target Landry often to move the chains.  Attack downfield against weak back 7.

DEFENSE - 34 Hybrid Cover 2

Focus on limiting Kamara’s production, Cunningham SPY on Kamara.  Blitz often on Rivers, trust our CBs in man on outside.

Game Plan

This week we face off against a rock solid defense while missing one of our best receivers.  I guess we did catch a little break in that Xavien Howard, whom I believe to be their best corner, is out.  That said, we’re going to taper off a little on our deep passing game and focus on the run game and getting Gronk more involved this week.

Offensive Formations:  I-form, Pistol, Single back set

Offensive Line

We’ll focus on giving Rivers inside protection by moving Jonnu Smith to Fullback to protect against Watt and Chris Jones whom both have been racking up the sacks this year.   In addition, we’ll slide the pocket as needed to open up throwing lanes, by sliding the tackle inside and having a back pickup the edge rush.   On rushing downs, we’ll use the off tackle tight end and fullback to free up space off the edge.

Passing

We’ll use quick passing and rollouts to avoid the inside blitz, taking what the defense gives us in coverage.  If Mike Evans is single covered we’ll take a few shots deep, but expect most to be underneath out routes with some slant and intermediate post routes mixed in by our outside receivers.  Gronk will be assigned deeper routes to pull pass protection and hopefully gash them deep on some post and go routes.  To get Kamara and the other backs involved in the passing game, we’ll use the play action pass having Kamara chip on his way inside becoming the dump for the short pass inside.  We believe this would be a nice counter to their interior pass rush.

Rushing

We’ll focus a little more on the run game this week, using the blocking mentioned above to get our trio of backs mostly to the outside.  On the inside rushing plays we’ll use the converted fullback to pick up blocks and hopefully push out a hole or two.

Defense

Scheme: 34 Defense / 335 Nickel – Man to Man Cover One

After the performance that Derrick Henry put on our focus with this unit is to not be the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Leading up to that game, Henry hadn’t rushed for over 60 in a single game.

We’ll use a combination of inside backers in Wagner/Davis/Warner to jam any holes that their offensive line creates to our interior line.  Kenny Clark has been a rock for us this year and expects he’ll do the same again this week.  Our outside backers will be assigned to cutting the edge rush off.  Because we’re playing a cover one, we’ll bring the Gibson down into the box at times to rush the quarterback as well as some decoy blitzes when not covering the TE.  Depending on how many tight ends are used in their formation Wagner will be used in pass protection.

Secondary Assignments

Jalen Ramsey = D. Thomas

Jaire Alexander = J. Landry

James Bradberry = E. Sanders

Eddie Jackson (if OUT Xavier Woods) = Cover 1

Tashaun Gipson = N. Boyle

 Joe Haden = 4th WR
